The AWS Well-Architected Tool now offers the ability for customers to create their own custom lenses.
Many customers who use the AWS Well-Architected Tool have internal best practices they follow in addition to the AWS best practices provided by the AWS Well-Architected Framework. Historically, customers have had to track these best practices in separate documents and tools, making it difficult to gather insights into their overall architectural health. With the addition of custom lenses, the AWS Well-Architected Tool will become a single place for customers to review and measure best practices while performing associated operational reviews for all technology across their organization.
Within a custom lens, customers can create their own pillars, questions, best practices, helpful resources, and improvement plans. They also can specify rules to determine which options, when not followed, result in high or medium risk issues being flagged. Customers then provide their own guidance for resolving the risk. Custom lenses can be shared across multiple AWS accounts for more visibility.
To create your custom lens, sign in to the AWS Well-Architected Tool in the AWS Management Console and choose Custom lenses to get started. This feature is available to customers and AWS Partners at no additional charge and is offered in all Regions where the AWS Well-Architected Tool is available: US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (N. California), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), Europe (London), Europe (Paris), Europe (Stockholm), South America (Sao Paulo), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Hong Kong), and Middle East (Bahrain).
