Amazon EC2 adds support for managed Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) with SQL Server 2022. With these AMIs, you can easily launch SQL Server 2022 on EC2 and take advantage of the fully compliant SQL Server licenses with per-second billing model. The new AMIs are available for both Windows Server and Linux operating systems. In addition, you can use related AWS services such as AWS Launch Wizard and CloudWatch Application Insights to further simplify your SQL Server deployment and management experience on EC2.

AWS is the proven, reliable, secure cloud for your SQL Server workloads. By running SQL Server 2022 on EC2, you can simplify SQL Server backups to S3 through a simple T-SQL BACKUP command. In addition, all SQL Server AMIs come with pre-installed software such as AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell, AWS Systems Manager, AWS CloudFormation, and various network and storage drivers to make your management easier.

You can launch your SQL Server databases on a broad range of EC2 instance types that best meet your needs either directly from your AWS Management Console or through API or CLI commands. These AMIs are available across all Public, AWS GovCloud (US) Regions, and China regions of AWS. For more information, visit the SQL Server on EC2 user guide.
