Starting today, you can link products with their predecessor versions or alternates to improve forecasts.

Creating an accurate demand plan requires demand planners to include sales history of prior models or similar products as input to forecast. With today’s release, planners can establish links between products and their predecessor versions or alternate products incorporating rules around the extent of history to be used for forecasting purpose, referred to as Product Lineage. AWS Supply Chain Demand Planning will leverage this information to generate a ‘surrogate history’ for the product forming the basis for more accurate demand predictions. This ensures that the forecast generated through product lineage is inherently more precise thereby minimizing the need for manual adjustments to forecasts. As a demand planner, you will see a distinct indicator on the user interface, signaling when the forecast has been created using the lineage history.

This feature is available to customers at no additional cost and is available in US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Sydney) and Europe (Frankfurt). Please visit AWS Supply Chain to learn more and get started.
