Today, AWS announces the general availability of a new integrated development environment (IDE) option in Amazon SageMaker Studio: Code Editor, based on Code-OSS (Visual Studio Code – Open Source). You can now boost your analytics and machine learning (ML) teams’ productivity by using the lightweight and powerful IDE with its familiar shortcuts and terminal as well as its advanced debugging capabilities and refactoring tools.

You can maximize your ML team’s effectiveness by choosing from thousands of Visual Studio Code–compatible extensions available in the Open VSX extension gallery to further enhance its development experience. Enable versioning control and cross-team collaboration through GitHub repositories. Reduce coding time by using the most popular ML frameworks right out of the box with the preconfigured Amazon SageMaker distribution. Seamlessly integrate with AWS services through the AWS Toolkit for Visual Studio Code, including built-in access to AWS data sources such as Amazon S3 and Amazon Redshift, and increase coding efficiency through Amazon CodeWhisperer, the AI-powered coding companion.

Code Editor, based on Code-OSS (Visual Studio Code – Open Source), is available in all SageMaker Studio domains that have opted in to the new SageMaker Studio. For more information about the AWS Regions where Code Editor is available, see the AWS Regions table.
