AWS announces the general availability of Amazon EC2 m7i.metal-24xl instance for VMware Cloud on AWS. This offering features a disaggregated storage architecture from compute, supporting both Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP and VMware Cloud Flex Storage as primary storage options for customers. With this new offering, customers can now choose among three instance types for VMware Cloud on AWS: i3en.metal, i4i.metal and m7i.metal-24xl.

This diskless instance allows customers to choose their storage and compute options independently, providing flexibility, control, and optimized infrastructure.

Powered by custom 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the m7i.metal-24xl instance is ideal for customers with compute-intensive workloads. It also offers accelerated performance with the Advanced Matrix Extensions (Intel® AMX) accelerator, well-suited for deep learning (DL) inference and training workloads. With up to 48 physical cores, 348GiB of memory, the m7i instances when used with Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP will offer a great solution for use cases such as disaster recovery, backup infrastructure, compute intensive, and AI / ML applications.

VMware Cloud on AWS customers can leverage the m7i.metal-24xl instance in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Ireland) Europe (Stockholm).

Customers now have 3 instance type options for new deployments: m7i.metal-24xl, i4i.metal, and i3en.metal. To learn more about the capabilities and benefits of m7i.metal-24xl instance, connect with your AWS representative or contact us here.
