Today, we are announcing the general availability of Amazon WorkSpaces running WorkSpaces Streaming Protocol (WSP) in the AWS Secret Region. WSP is a cloud-native streaming protocol designed to enable your users to access a highly responsive remote desktop experience and features such as 2-way audio video and smart card support.
With this launch, customers can now use Common Access Card (CAC) and Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cards when in their WorkSpaces. With AWS Directory Service and Amazon WorkSpaces with WSP, users can use smart cards to authenticate into a WorkSpaces instance (pre-session authentication) or to protected applications from within a WorkSpaces instance (in-session authentication).
WSP WorkSpaces is only available on Amazon WorkSpaces with Microsoft Windows in the AWS Secret Region. It requires Windows native client version 5.4.0 or above.
