Amazon FSx for Windows File Server provides a fully managed native Microsoft Windows file system so you can easily move your Windows-based applications that require file storage to AWS. Built on Windows Server, Amazon FSx provides shared file storage with the compatibility and features that your Windows-based applications rely on, including full support for the SMB protocol and Windows NTFS, Active Directory (AD) integration, and Distributed File System (DFS). Amazon FSx uses SSD storage to provide the fast performance your Windows applications and users expect, with high levels of throughput and IOPS, and consistent sub-millisecond latencies. This compatibility and performance is particularly important when moving workloads that require Windows shared file storage, like CRM, ERP, and .NET applications, as well as home directories.
With Amazon FSx, you can launch highly durable and available Windows file systems that can be accessed from up to thousands of compute instances using the industry-standard SMB protocol. Native Windows compatibility
Built on Windows Server, you get native Windows file storage, with the features and performance needed to move your applications to AWS with no changes. Amazon FSx provides NTFS file systems that can be accessed from up to thousands of compute instances using the SMB protocol. Amazon FSx works with Microsoft Active Directory (AD) to integrate your file system with your Windows environments. Amazon FSx supports the use of Distributed File System (DFS) Replication to enable multi-AZ deployments.
Fast and flexible performance
Built on SSD-storage, Amazon FSx provides fast performance with up to 2 GB/second throughput per file system, hundreds of thousands of IOPS, and consistent sub-millisecond latencies. To provide the right performance for your workload, you can choose a throughput level that is independent of your file system size. By using DFS Namespaces, you can scale performance up to tens of gigabytes per second of throughput, with millions of IOPS, across hundreds of petabytes of data.
By supporting the SMB protocol, Amazon FSx can connect your file system to Amazon EC2, VMware Cloud on AWS, Amazon WorkSpaces, and Amazon AppStream 2.0 instances. Amazon FSx supports all Windows versions starting from Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7, and current versions of Linux. Amazon FSx also supports on-premises access via AWS Direct Connect or AWS VPN, and access from multiple VPCs, accounts, and regions using VPC Peering or AWS Transit Gateway.
You no longer have to worry about setting up and provisioning file servers and storage volumes, installing Windows file server software updates and patches, and manually performing backups. In minutes, you can easily create a fully managed file system by using the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, or an AWS SDK. Amazon FSx also provides automatic durable daily backups.
Secure and compliant
Amazon FSx provides multiple levels of security and compliance to help ensure your data is protected. Amazon FSx automatically encrypts your data at-rest and in-transit. Amazon FSx is designed to meet the highest security standards and it has been assessed to comply with ISO and PCI-DSS certifications, and is HIPAA eligible. Integration with AWS CloudTrail monitors and logs your API calls letting you see actions taken by users on your Amazon FSx resources.

You can easily move existing home directory workloads to Amazon FSx.
