Corda Blockchain on AWS

Reduce transaction and record-keeping costs with blockchain technology

This Partner Solution deploys a Corda node to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. Corda helps existing business networks reduce transaction and record-keeping costs and streamline business operations.

Corda on AWS is a production-ready implementation of a Corda node, which offers built-in resilience and high availability that can scale as the needs of the node operator change. This Partner Solution is for IT infrastructure architects, administrators, DevOps professionals, CorDapp developers, and business users who plan to implement a Corda node.

This Partner Solution was developed by R3 in collaboration with AWS. R3 is an
AWS Partner.

  •  What you'll build
  • The Partner Solution sets up the following:

    • A virtual private cloud (VPC) configured across two Availability Zones with public and private subnets according to AWS best practices.*
    • An internet gateway to allow access to the internet.*
    • Managed NAT gateways to allow outbound internet access for the Corda node instances.*
    • A logical Corda node with hot-cold instances across the two Availability Zones.
    • Security groups for each instance, which restrict access to only the necessary protocols and ports.
    • Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) load balancers to load-balance remote procedure calls (RPCs), and P2P traffic over TCP to the highly available Corda node instances.
    • An Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) PostgreSQL managed database instance configured for the Corda Vault and pertinent node state.
    • An Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) instance shared by the instances across Availability Zones.
    • Amazon CloudWatch logging of resources and Corda node.

    * The template that deploys the Partner Solution into an existing VPC skips the tasks marked by asterisks and prompts you for your existing VPC configuration.

  •  How to deploy
  • To deploy this Partner Solution, follow the instructions in the deployment guide, which includes these steps.

    1. Sign in to your AWS account. If you don’t have an AWS account, sign up at https://aws.amazon.com.
    2. Launch the Partner Solution. The stack takes about 30 minutes to deploy. Before you create the stack, choose the AWS Region from the top toolbar. Choose one of the following options:
    3. Test the deployment.

Amazon may share user-deployment information with the AWS Partner that collaborated with AWS on this solution.

  •  Costs and licenses
  • This Partner Solution includes a 60-day trial license that provides limited access to Corda features. For more information, refer to the R3 website. To use the deployment created by this Partner Solution after this trial, you must obtain a Corda license by contacting sales@r3.com.

You are responsible for the cost of the AWS services and any third-party licenses used while running this solution. There is no additional cost for using the solution.

This solution includes configuration parameters that you can customize. Some of these settings, such as instance type, affect the cost of deployment. For cost estimates, refer to the pricing pages for each AWS service you use. Prices are subject to change.

Tip: After you deploy a solution, create AWS Cost and Usage Reports to track associated costs. These reports deliver billing metrics to an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) bucket in your account. They provide cost estimates based on usage throughout each month and aggregate the data at the end of the month. For more information, refer to What are AWS Cost and Usage Reports?
