Intelligent support for the shop floor
Background
Supply chain analytics is a hot topic that many multinationals are going after. The high-level business case is obvious. Supply chain environments are data rich, suffer from a cascade of small causes that reduce utilization, increase waste, and ultimately (often unnecessarily) increase cost per unit produced. The major issue is that this cascade of small causes is a mix of interaction of machine breakdowns and slowdowns, human error and (unproductive) operating habits, unforeseen machine-product interactions, etc. While there is a wealth of data available in most production environments, to untangle the web of cause-effect of this plethora of possible causes and their impact “down the line” is not an easy task. The ability to conduct fact-based root-cause-analysis is often where the opportunity lies.

Overview
The platform focuses on creating top line growth by empowering the shop floor. We have created a scalable, secure, and cloud-native data platform. Our platform extracts raw machine data from production lines, transforms it into a standard data format, then loads it into a data lake that enables local teams to analyze, adjust, and test use cases to optimize their production process. As our platform is always run by experts, a team of experts on data, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and security and testing take the lead. We designed the platform to be scaled and rolled out within a day. By creating a data-driven factory, customers can increase their efficiency and strengthen its competitive edge in a price-driven market.
Benefits
A 5% efficiency gain, a 30% return on investment, and increased employee happiness.
- 5% efficiency gain - Digitized production decreases manufacturing costs, minimizes errors and human interventions, and enables operators to make fact-based decisions at any moment.
- 30% return of investment - With a focus on local acceptance, driving a use case-based program is key to immediately create value and have a low ROI.
- Increase employee happiness - The factories that utilize data-driven manufacturing focus on helping, supporting, and enabling employees, which results in happy employees.
- Increase digital savviness of workforce - Home environments are often more digitized than manufacturing environments. Working with the Schuberg Philis platform will help attract the best next-generation operators.
Features
Use case driven improvements – Quick value
The platform is an enablement platform that offers very powerful self-help tooling enabling every factory professional to disclose, display, alarm, and analyze what is needed. The platform gives factories flexibility to implement defined use case based on real-time machine and other data from any source without need for standardization.
Network value transparency – Think local, act global
The platform fits a combination of global and local-for-local strategies. The platform supports global roll out of priority use cases, centrally developed and validated by senior management, the global experts, and the factory shop floor. Evenly important: the platform supports local development of use cases, while mitigating the major organizational flaws of the local-for-local organizational distributed autonomy. The difficulty in coordinating innovations result in similar ‘re-inventing the wheel projects’, flying under the corporate radar. A variety of local solutions emerge for tackling similar issues, eventually competing internally with each other to become a global standard. The set-up of the platform is so that every deployment is re-usable by others, creating a level playing field for all.
