A good move for the company to secure network
What do you like best about the product?
What I like most is the all-in-one approach to security - app visibility, threat prevention, and user/device control, all bundled in one system. It’s top-notch at stopping both known and hope unknown threats, especially with its ability to inspect encrypted traffic.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest downside is the price - it's a premium product, and that comes with a premium cost. Also, the setup and management can be a bit tricky for small IT teams, especially if they don’t have experience with Palo Alto’s platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our network stays secure, reducing the risk of costly breaches. Also it provides deep insight into the apps running on our network, allowing us to manage and control them effectively, this ensures that only authorized applications are in use. One more point, it identifies users and devices accessing our network, enabling us to enforce security policies based on who or what is connecting, ensuring only trusted entities have access. Oh, and these firewalls can decrypt and inspect SSL/TLS traffic.
Using Pablo Alto Firewalls

I do not have any thing I do not like about product
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Layer 7 threats are helping use response to day 1 threats before hand
Pretty Solid Security
What do you like best about the product?
Pretty solid choice if you're looking for a decent combo of an easy to set up and use interface with advanced capabilities. It’s as straightforward as it gets to get the ball rolling, stands up well under heavy load and offers all the features you want out of a NGFW. The support team is amazing andalways reachbale too, always a plus.
What do you dislike about the product?
I mostly appreciate the advanced settings (like IPS or SSL decryption) but they can be a bit tedious if not properly managed and lead to perfromance issues. The centralized management platform is a big plus, especially for larger setups but there can be some lag with cloud-based management when dealing with a lot of logs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's helping my org meet compliance requirements with all the advanced logging, monitoring, and reporting features necessary for audits.
i like it advanced features with very nice GUI, robust performance, and ease of management
What do you like best about the product?
easily integrate with cloud environments , really Palo Alto NGFW has powerful solutions compared to others, one of greatest NGFWs.
What do you dislike about the product?
sometimes it takes very long time to commit saved configs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
deep packet inspection and integrated threat intelligence to identify and mitigate these advanced threats in real-time, also i like that integration with AD(Active directory) and radius server ...
System Engineer
What do you like best about the product?
Palo alto offers an intuitive and user friendly interface that simplifies policy management
What do you dislike about the product?
We will need support assistance while configuring from scratch and they have a delay response
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Secure the network
Enhanced threat prevention with advanced security controls
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case involves using next-generation firewalls, hardware, VM-Series, Prisma Access for SASE solutions, Prisma Cloud for cloud security posture management, and Cloud Workload Protection. It's used primarily for securing customers' virtualized data center environments as well as public cloud environments.
How has it helped my organization?
The additional visibility, which was lacking with cloud-native tools, has improved the organization's cloud security posture. Advanced enforcement and granular security controls help manage potential threats.
What is most valuable?
The most effective feature for threat prevention is the threat prevention model in the VM-Series. This is bundled with advanced URL filtering, decryption, and wildfire sandboxing.
What needs improvement?
If additional web application firewall capabilities could be integrated into the existing firewall, it would negate the need for additional products.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with Palo Alto VM-Series for at least five to six years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We haven't had challenges with failovers yet.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've controlled the scalability via VMSS in Azure, using auto-scale groups in AWS. It's quite seamless, though there's room for improvement in cost management, especially during traffic spikes.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support is great. We've had no challenges and there are established channels for customer success and professional services.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
In the past, I used to work with Check Point, but haven't worked with them lately. Given the support from Palo Alto, there hasn't been a necessity to explore others.
How was the initial setup?
The integration process involved using a Panorama setup for centralized firewall administration, transitioning from cloud-native firewalls to VM-Series.
What about the implementation team?
We are primarily a consulting firm and reseller, so we've had significant involvement in the process.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution tends to add to costs especially when scaling, although measures like using large compute instances minimize the need for scaling.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Potential competitors mentioned are Check Point and Cisco but haven't been evaluated recently.
What other advice do I have?
For straightforward firewall inspection and basic IPS, IDS requirements, native firewalls might suffice. For more advanced needs, using VM-Series or Palo Alto Firewalls is recommended.
I would rate it an eight out of ten.
easy to use, mostly well documented
What do you like best about the product?
it feels easy to use, for me at least but maybe it's like that because it was an experience I had as a junior with an experienced engineer.
other than that I rarely experienced any bugs that prevented my day 2 day work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think mainly the cost. for me it meant lower overall budget for other things.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
well it solves the security issue of being exposed to the internet obviosly...
and it benefits me in the way that I'm able to filter (with manual and built-in rules) my incoming trafic.
