Monitoring purchased applications with dynatrace
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to customize and tailor monitoring for our needs
What do you dislike about the product?
Licensing is complex. Host units calculated based on memory of our logical partitions (aix virtual machines). No other vendor behaves this way and it complicates the deployment a bit. We have to figure out manually our deployment footprint to determine currrent and future licensing needs. Cumbersome.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring of availability and application performance for a packaged application with dc rum.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
They understand the nature of our tasks (operational support, Devops, etc.) and have built tools designed to save labor, effort and money
Top of the line...but cost too..
What do you like best about the product?
The details it provides and ease of use is top of the line.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost, pricing model. The lack of synthetic monitoring when using the managed solution.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Getting insight into vendor software that I didn’t before to help resolve issues faster and more accurately with less guess work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Dynatrace is great, but be sure to take into account the pricing. Synthetic testing is extra and would be nice to do on-prem testing with the product. Or managed. When external synthetic testing is needed, I understand that as an additional cost.

AppMon in Developers Day today life
What do you like best about the product?
I like the way we can configure AppMon in our local repository and identify issues, performance issues at the development stage. Managed - Life is simpler with Managed implementation.
What do you dislike about the product?
The way the Admin has to intervene for all the changes in the System Profile when there is only one System Profile defined. How there is no view access to the configurations for the System Profile. Most of the time, our users want to know what the Admin configured on the AppMon PROD servers for their application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a lot of live dashboards that our team displays in our War Rooms. When there is an issue, the first stop is Dynatrace AppMon. This makes our life easier. And now we are migrating from AppMon to Managed. All our application team members are amazed by the things Managed can automatically identify. We don’t need to create any dashboards, BTs, or Measures. It’s all self-configurable by the individual application team once we provide Management Zone access.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I don't have any recommendations
A powerful and easy to use APM that is easy to install and deploy.
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to install and deploy. Up and running in days with valuable metric immediately available.
What do you dislike about the product?
No native support for webmethods. We are a webmethods shop and are missing some key performance monitoring on that technology
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We primarily bought the procduct for operations, but would like to get more visabliltiy to the business for the digital customer experience. THat information will be invaluable to our customer experience folks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Easy to switch and get up and running quickly
Dynatrace usage
What do you like best about the product?
The detailed view into our infrastructure and application performance. Gives us ability to find and detect and solve performance issues early on in our software development lifecycle and gives us advantage over competeitiors to release capabilities to user faster.
What do you dislike about the product?
We use app mon heavily in our infratstrucure right now. App mon is client based tool that needs to be installed on easy users system. The client usually is slow and takes a while to show metrics on the dashboard. The teams aren’t happy with it. We also don’t have a anomaly detection and AI on app mon.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have reduced our cycle time to release features to customers by solving a lot of performance and usability issues early on
