Provides effective threat prevention and helps improve security

  • March 07, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution as a firewall for our offices.

What is most valuable?

The product helps improve our security. We use SonicWall NSv on Azure. It’s a basic firewall. It's similar to all the other firewalls. The tool provides effective threat prevention. It simplifies our security operations. There is no direct connectivity to the VMs. We have everything on the host machine. There, we have the internal switches. So, the network layer has more security.

What needs improvement?

We face some challenges when we upgrade the solution. If I use NSv 400, I can't upgrade to the next generation. We cannot upgrade the VM to the next generation. We have to rebuild a new VM and copy the configurations. We cannot upgrade straightaway. The solution must allow us to upgrade the same machine to a newer version without many changes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Since we have enabled the product in a fresh environment, there is no downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product’s scalability is good. We can upgrade easily.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team is very good. We can contact the team by phone or email.

How was the initial setup?

The initial deployment is straightforward. We get the image and deploy it in Azure. The configuration takes a day.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool is moderately priced. We need to purchase an additional license for NSM. We can manage all the firewalls through NSM. Otherwise, we would have to connect each location manually to manage the devices. With NSM, we can connect and manage all the firewalls globally. We can push the policies across all the firewalls in one go.

What other advice do I have?

We use SonicWall’s Content Filtering, Gateway, and IPS security tools. Most solutions have similar features. When we deployed the tool in our organization, it had all the technical functionality we needed. It is still relevant and fits our requirements. Currently, we are on Azure. Before, we had an on-premises setup. We were using VMware for our on-premises setup. Overall, I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

A user-friendly and robust firewall solution

  • November 21, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are clients for the solution. SonicWall is used for creating VPN connections, particularly for side-to-side VPN configurations. Additionally, we employ SonicWall to block addresses and function as a firewall.

What is most valuable?

One of the standout features of SonicWall is its simplicity in creating and managing rules. The ease of generating reports, and overall, it is a reliable solution that works.

What needs improvement?

An area that could be improved is the export and import settings functionality. When changing or adding equipment, one has to recreate all the rules, as the import and export system could be more efficient. The pricing of the solution for Brazil could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for over eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. The deployment was done over a weekend.

What about the implementation team?

Regarding the installation process, we collaborated with a trusted partner, a reputable company in our region. They proved to be an excellent partner for implementing the solution. Our experience involved specifying our requirements. They efficiently handled the more complex aspects of the installation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's pricing is good for the technology it offers. However, it’s relatively high for Brazil. This pricing structure may be more competitive in other regions since it’s in US dollars.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend thorough planning before deploying the solution. This involves creating a detailed implementation plan, identifying and documenting all necessary rules, and understanding the ports that must be open. Due to the specificity of rules in SonicWall, meticulous planning is crucial. It is advisable to maintain a notebook to avoid creating confusion or errors during the deployment process. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

An easy to configure solution with no additional charges

  • June 14, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We installed an on-premises firewall and connected it to the circuit. From the circuit, we give the LAN IP so that all users will be connected with the LAN IP, and everybody will be restricted.

What is most valuable?

We've given connectivity for work-from-home users. Basic engineers can also easily configure the solution. The solution has no additional charges and no restrictions on the number of users.

What needs improvement?

SonicWall NSV's SSL VPN could increase its number of users to 100-plus users. I have still not checked if SonicWall NSV will support SSL VPN for 100-plus users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I’ve been using SonicWall NSV for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

SonicWall NSV's stability is good, and we haven't faced any issues. The 100-plus users working on the site are secured.

How are customer service and support?

The solution’s customer support is good.

How was the initial setup?

SonicWall NSV's initial setup and deployment are pretty straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

The solution's deployment took one hour.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's price is around INR 50,000-60,000. SonicWall NSV is not very costly.

I rate SonicWall NSV a five out of ten for pricing.

What other advice do I have?

SonicWall NSV is a good solution on-premise, with no additional charges. We have load balancing in the SonicWall NSV.

Different solutions are coming into the market. It will be good if operations happen offline since there won't be any downtime, and it will help the business run continuously. When people start working from home, and the number of users increases, we can go with the cloud firewall, which gives double security.

Overall, I rate SonicWall NSV a ten out of ten.
