Very good DDoS protection, responsive support, and detects attacks in real-time

  • September 13, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Our company is an ISP. We provide DDoS protection services ourselves. We need the technical means to be able to provide such services. We have DefensePro in our facilities through which we provide protection services to our clients.

How has it helped my organization?

Radware Defense Pro is an excellent solution for our customers as it works in blind mode. That, and the licensing model, is more attractive for the customer since the license is based on the capacity of clean traffic, not the combined traffic. If an attack is around 30 gigabits, you can still go on with your license of four gigabits due to the clean and legitimate traffic not exceeding four gigabits.

What is most valuable?

It's very good at protecting users from DDoS attacks. It's the leader in this domain.

In our use case, we do not use encryption or decryption. We simply defend against general types of DDoS attacks, like TCP SIM or DNS flood attacks. With Radware, we can defend against many types of attacks.

Radware consists of a so-called security profile. Each profile is just like an engine, and the engines check if that packet is valid or invalid. If it's invalid, it just gets dropped immediately and doesn't go for checking to another engine. But if it's okay, then another engine checks if it belongs to a scanning attack or it's a behavior-based attack. It helps decide whether something is malicious or not.

DefensePro is very effective at detecting attacks in real-time. From our experience, it's quite effective equipment. The main goal during the attack is just to protect the host and the customer's facility. So in this way, it is quite effective. We also have NetScout in our facilities, so we can compare them with each other.

Our goal is to analyze the attack after attack and try to improve our ability to minimize the false positives. It's helped us.

We've been able to reduce downtime associated with attacks. During an attack, Radware DefensePro drops the malicious traffic. Sometimes it is very effective, and sometimes it is not as effective. However, without this, the very first attack against the customer would just pull everything down. Now that we have this equipment in place providing protection, the customer can continue to work. Maybe the performance would suffer a little bit; however, at least they can continue to work. We have small attacks happening every day against our customers, so having protection is critical.

What needs improvement?

The APSolute Vision feature needs improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for around five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We do have problems with stability when it comes to APSolute Vision. It seems to have been written using Docker and it's quite complicated. We don't know much about the internal infrastructure. Sometimes, it just doesn't let you log in or it displays configuration errors. I'd rate the stability eight out of ten overall.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have around 30 end users. However, we do have the solution for our end customers, which are enterprises.

We haven't had a chance to test the scalability. That said, by design, scalability is built into the design of the solution. You can install multiple DefensePros and they can be controlled and monitored from one single APSolute Vision station. They have switched to a newer platform, and I don't have experience with that controller just yet. My impression is they fixed a lot of issues people found with APSolute Vision when building the new controller.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is among the best. If you open a ticket, they respond immediately and they are very helpful. They ask to give control so the support engineer can fix things himself. It's great.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm also familiar with Arbor. It's another leader in the domain.

We used Jupiter for some time. Radware receives regular updates of threats, however, Jupiter did not have that capability. It worked mainly with behavior-based attacks. Both Radware and Arbor also have behavior-based attack protections and zero-day attacks, plus they both have subscription services and centers of knowledge that periodically send you updates on the latest attacks and on malicious hosts.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex. You hear documentation is quite good, however, it's really just a field of knowledge. It's just not enough to understand how to configure things or how to click and choose another profile.

You need to know the nature of DDoS attacks and many, many intricate things about DDoS attacks to be able to configure the box comprehensively. This is the biggest challenge. It's unlike, for example, if you have to deal with routing equipment. Everything looks straightforward, and everything is predictable. This domain, it's much more complex due to the nature of the sync of the DDoS attack. Even for us, now, five years later, we still don't know everything. The field is very complex.

There is continuous maintenance needed from our side. We have four people who handle maintenance tasks.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is very expensive, as is Arbor.

What other advice do I have?

We still have the older model of DefensePro without X. Instead of the cyber controller, we have their older monitoring solution, APSolute Vision. My understanding is that the cyber controller took away some of the deficiencies of APSolute Vision.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. It has some issues, however, Radware alongside Arbor are two of the best solutions.

Enables us to mitigate an incident in seconds

  • May 20, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Our web-based services were frequently overloaded by DDoS attacks, causing slow performance, and unavailability, and impacting both our clients and internal users. To address this, we implemented the Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service to safeguard our internet-facing assets and prevent these attacks from disrupting our services.

How has it helped my organization?

Radware has been performing well and blocking threats in real time. We haven't had any incidents requiring clarification or causing service disruptions, and we closely track its performance by monitoring the volume, type, and frequency of attacks. So far, we haven't seen any attacks that would make us question our choice of Radware as our security solution.

Implementing Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service provided immediate visibility into our network. We detected several attempted attacks soon after activation, but thankfully none were successful. This lack of successful attacks is due to the implemented protection.

Our DDoS protection has been a lifesaver! While we're under near-constant attack, users and clients haven't experienced any slowdowns or outages thanks to the protection. This is a big improvement over the significant disruptions we faced before implementing the solution.

Radware's response time after an attack meets our expectations. They are very responsive and address our questions or concerns almost immediately, which aligns with our service level agreement.

Radware can detect an incident within seconds.

We can mitigate an incident in seconds with Radware.

Radware's service level agreement stands out favorably when compared to its competitors in the industry.

What is most valuable?

The key strength of Radware's Cloud DDoS Protection Service is its behavior engine, which uses anomaly detection to identify and stop DDoS attacks. Additionally, its flexibility is a major advantage. Since every company's architecture has unique aspects, Radware can adapt to our specific needs, whether it's a particular use case, a slight complication in design or deployment, or any other customization required by our setup.

Also, during the pilot and testing phase, we received excellent support from Radware. They provided clear explanations and the high level of service we expected. This was crucial because DDoS attacks can strike unexpectedly, and a rapid response is essential. Radware's responsiveness throughout the testing process assured us that we weren't just another customer.

What needs improvement?

To improve my ability to monitor security events, I would like Radware to strengthen its integration with SIEM for better logging capabilities.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service for two and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have not had any stability issues with the Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Radware's Cloud DDoS Protection Service's biggest advantage for us is its scalability. Because it's cloud-based, we can easily request more bandwidth or capacity if needed, unlike on-premises solutions where adding more protection would require buying and installing additional hardware, which can be complex and expensive. While we haven't had to scale up yet, the cloud-based model gives us the flexibility to do so easily in the future.

How are customer service and support?

We have contacted the technical support of Radware around six times and they have resolved all of our issues promptly.

Radware doesn't use an automated, convoluted system. We get to speak to a live person fairly quickly.

How was the initial setup?

I would rate the deployment of Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service as medium-scale due to routing configuration challenges. These challenges impacted various aspects, including test traffic handling, failover capabilities, and overall network resilience.

The deployment took five weeks and three people to complete.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was completed in-house.

What was our ROI?

Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service offers a strong return on investment. Consider the combined cost of service downtime for employees and clients, reputational damage, and other negative impacts. This outweighs the solution's annual cost. A single hour of downtime can quickly erase the cost of protection, especially when factoring in lost productivity and damaged trust.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Radware's Cloud DDoS Protection Service stands out for its competitive pricing, making it a strong contender in our decision. We believe the value we receive for the cost is superior to what other vendors offer.

When choosing DDoS protection, focus on long-term value, not just upfront cost. While a solution might seem expensive today, its ability to adapt and handle future threats is crucial. Researching options and prioritizing features like flexibility and proactivity ensures your protection keeps pace with the evolving threat landscape. This approach provides peace of mind, knowing your solution can address new attacks and growing traffic demands. Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service does all this.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

After considering three different options, including Radware, we ultimately decided to implement Radware for our needs.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service nine out of ten.

Fast mitigation, competitive pricing, and guaranteed SLA

  • April 16, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are a data center company. We have our own cloud, and we need to protect this cloud from DDoS attacks. That is why we have subscribed to Cloud DDoS as well as on-premise DDoS from Radware.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution is very good at blocking threats in real time.

We are using the management system. Through this management system, we can route the traffic to the scrubbing center. Because the scrubbing center is in India, latency is extremely low, and mitigation is very fast. This is the best part. The management system is initially very difficult because you do not know where to see and what to see. It took us around 5 months to become familiar with the management system. After that, things became crystal clear. The initial five months were difficult.

We get real-time alerts and real-time dashboards for all the issues and threats that keep coming. We can protect ourselves from attacks. Because they are visible on the dashboard, we can mitigate them.

We can mitigate attacks in a few seconds.

We have the SLA for attack detection. We have the SLA for attack mitigation. We proactively get alerts on volumetric attacks. We also have SSL-based attack protection. We have service availability SLA. We are able to provide standalone DDoS services as well as the DDoS solution in statefulness. These are a few of the things. In addition, we have on-demand volumetric mitigation. We always have volumetric mitigation. We have an attack model that is limited to the attack capacity, and we also have another model for unlimited DDoS attack capacity. These are all the basic differentiators and advantages that we are getting by default with this solution.

The false positives were quite high, but we have seen an almost 30% reduction in false positives in the last six months.

If we are under attack, initially, there is a slight impact in terms of user experience, but as the mitigation starts happening, this impact goes away. The user experience improves immediately after the attack is mitigated. So, when an attack happens, the legit users will experience a slight impact, but as soon as mitigation starts happening, this impact is reduced. In a way, the users do not get much impacted because the mitigation is very fast. With other solutions, mitigation is slow, whereas with the Radware DDoS solution, mitigation is very fast, so the impact time is much less.

We have got the highest level of service. We have the ERT premium services. The response time has not at all been an issue for us. We get a very good response.

It takes less than 10 seconds to detect an incident. The average time to mitigate an incident is from 3 seconds to 15 seconds.

Radware's scrubbing center is within India, so their SLAs are very good. Mitigation happens very fast. We do not have the scrubbing centers of other service providers in India, so mitigation happens outside. That is why there is a delay in the mitigation of DDoS attacks with other service providers. In the case of Radware, the scrubbing center is in India. That is the best part.

What is most valuable?

The most important part is that Radware DDoS integrates seamlessly and provides anomaly identification, real-time notifications, and security against DDoS attacks. It also helps us with multi-layer volumetric attacks. It shields us from global botnet threats.

We are getting proactive notifications on threats and mitigation. We are getting real-time security updates. We get very comprehensive reporting and analytics and guaranteed performance and SLA. For us, this is very important because if we do not have a guaranteed SLA, the product has no meaning.

The best part is that Radware DDoS has a scrubbing center within India. Whenever a DDoS attack happens, it is able to route all its traffic through the scrubbing center. This helps in guaranteeing seamless and hassle-free protection against DDoS attacks.

What needs improvement?

Radware's management is very proactive, but Radware's lower-level staff is not proactive. You need to do a lot of follow-ups. This is one point that they need to improve. If they improve this, they will be world-class because everything else is so good.

For how long have I used the solution?

It has been 3.5 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We found the system stable. It is an Israeli company. Most of the time, their products are stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a cloud solution, so it is scalable. The mitigation capacity with Radware is extremely high, so we do not have to worry about that at all.

How are customer service and support?

When there is a problem and you contact their lower-level staff, they take their own sweet time to act. However, if you call their management, the resolution is very fast. Their management is very proactive and alert. In India, we have a relationship with the highest management of Radware, so things happen very fast for us, but this should not be the case. We should not be contacting their management for every issue. We should be only contacting the lower level staff. It is not a scalable model. I would rate their support an 8 out of 10.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used F5, and I have used Akamai. I have also used Arbor. These are the three solutions I have used in my career but not in my current company.

Radware is better. The reason we have gone with it is that we have an excellent product, an excellent management team, and an excellent SLA.

How was the initial setup?

It is a cloud solution, but I also have an on-premise solution, so I have a hybrid solution.

Its deployment was not difficult. If you plan it properly, it is not difficult. It is very easy.

It does not require any maintenance from our side. Sometimes, some patches come in. They deploy those patches. We do not have to do anything.

What about the implementation team?

We had a service provider of Radware called RAH Infotech. They have been there with us.

We had a 2 member team that was responsible along with the partner.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its pricing is competitive. The licensing model is also very competitive. It is customizable, so there is no issue at all. They have given us whatever we have asked in terms of the pricing model and SLA.

I would rate it a 7 out of 10 for pricing. It is neither very high nor low. It is what is required.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated other services. Radware management was very approachable. That was one positive point. They helped us with the best solution with the best SLA.

What other advice do I have?

If you are looking for a stable solution, then Radware is an obvious choice.

Overall, I would rate this solution a 9 out of 10.

100% availability, good dashboards, and ease of operations

  • April 09, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are a data center and cloud service provider. We are providing this as a service model to our customers. We are taking services and selling them to our customers. We will continue to provide services in consultation with the Radware team.

How has it helped my organization?

Security is the most important benefit. In security services, we need to get proactive information. After implementing Radware DefensePro, we have a dashboard, and we can do proactive detection. It helps us to be reactive as well as proactive to protect the customers.

Radware DefensePro provides a single dashboard for our operations team and the admin team. It is very convenient. All the information is available in a single place.

As a service provider, we are using the Radware SecOps dashboard as per our customer's requirements. It is always customized.

The Radware SecOps dashboard is quite useful. It is generally used by my team. I am not using it directly. My team uses it for day-to-day operations.

The Radware SecOps dashboard is easy to use. The interface is very user-friendly. This is the feedback that I am getting from my team.

Radware DefensePro is very useful for protecting our organization against DDoS threats and attacks. We evaluated it against a lot of its competitors and finalized it. It is definitely useful, and it serves the purpose.

We are serving the BFSI customers. There are also a lot of trading companies. We are able to meet the compliance requirements for the Internet traffic given by the Reserve Bank of India and SEBI.

Radware DefensePro is able to detect attacks in real-time. It does the detection and provides alerts in real-time as well. The action is something we need to take. My team has not reported any false negatives given by Radware DefensePro.

The proactive information and the dashboard of Radware DefensePro definitely give us comfort. It also helps me with online reporting for my customers, which is not in real-time, but whenever a customer asks for a report, we share the report with the customer.

Radware DefensePro has not helped us reduce downtime associated with attacks because we did not have any downtime previously. We have been lucky. The downtime was not there at all, but it is helping to maintain our uptime. We are able to maintain that now.

What is most valuable?

The dashboard is the best part, and there is also the ease of operations.

What needs improvement?

As a service provider, we are expecting the multi-tenancy feature on the dashboard and reporting side. It will help share reports with customers in real-time. They can directly see them online. We are working with their team on API integration with our portal. We will be able to achieve that, but it will take some time.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Radware DefensePro for the last 4 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There were a few errors that we observed earlier, but their team was very proactive. During a PoC with one of the customers, we faced a lot of challenges, but their team was very proactive. It is a technology, so there will always be some challenges. We understand that, and any technical person will also understand it. How they are reacting to a situation is much more important and the support that they provide is much more important. I would rate it a 9 out of 10 for stability.

We have not faced any challenges with the service availability of Radware DefensePro. There is a 100% availability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. Currently, we are giving it to small and medium organizations, and not to enterprises, because generally, enterprises have their own dedicated solution, and they have their own management team. We act as a reseller with them, not as a service provider. We have plans to increase its usage.

We have a 24/7 shift, and our SOC team comprises 45 people.

How are customer service and support?

We have not had any bad experiences, but there is always scope for improvement. That is the reason I would rate them a nine out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In our environment, we are not using any other vendor. Our team and the Radware team work hand in hand. We have got one more big order. We are jointly working, so there is no question of selling any other solutions. We are partners. The CEO of Radware India is also a good friend of our CEO. There is also a personal connection there. We are not seeing anything where any other product will be involved.

How was the initial setup?

It is deployed on-premises in our environment, but we are selling it as a cloud to the customer.

Its deployment was a little bit complex because we did not have in-house expertise. The Radware team and their partner helped us to deploy it. The next deployment will be easy for us because we understand the technology now. The first time deployment was a little bit tedious for us because we did not have the knowledge of the product. In terms of duration, it took a couple of weeks after delivery.

We have not had many problems after the implementation because we had the support of their team.

There is maintenance from the upgrade point of view. Otherwise, there is no maintenance.

What was our ROI?

Investment in a security product is like an investment in insurance. It always seems costly, but when you face a problem, you see the value of it. Security services are always like that. Cost is one factor, and security is another major factor. You should know what you are protecting. Putting the cheapest solution may or may not put you in trouble, but when you are in trouble, nobody will be able to save you.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is expensive. I would rate it a 7 out of 10 for pricing.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend Radware DefensePro. We are a Radware partner, and we work jointly on any government or non-government RFPs.

We use load balancers and some of the other products from Radware. We use Alteon.

I would rate Radware DefensePro a 9 out of 10. We have not faced any challenges as such. It has protected us and our customers.

Reduces the concerns about attacks on the entire organization, allowing us to maintain uptime

  • April 28, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We utilize Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service to safeguard against unpredictable floating IP traffic. If the traffic exceeds the capacity of the on-site Radware Defense Pro product, the system will automatically switch over to cloud-based filtering.

How has it helped my organization?

Real-time threat blocking is highly effective in capturing attacks as they occur with near-instant response time. In my experience, it seldom causes any issues once detected.

Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service reduces the concerns about attacks on the entire organization, allowing us to maintain uptime in situations where others might not be able to do so without this solution.

Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service's response time is commendable. Their solution is highly responsive when we contact them, or in case of an attack where they need to initiate contact with us to collaborate on cloud mitigation.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the controller that determines when and how traffic can be moved to the cloud.

What needs improvement?

The current deployment heavily depends on the Radware team and requires improvement, particularly in the device configuration aspect rather than the cloud mitigation aspect. We encountered several challenges during deployment. We heavily relied on Radware's technical team to ensure the proper setup and configuration of VPN tunnels for cloud mitigation.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Cloud DDoS Protection Service for several years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I give Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service an eight out of ten for scalability.

While the solution is capable of accommodating scaling up, it may take a bit of time to fully implement.

How are customer service and support?

I have had a positive experience with technical support. Whenever I submit a ticket regarding an issue, they promptly respond within a reasonable amount of time, depending on the severity of the case. They consistently guide me to a solution that addresses all of my concerns.

How was the initial setup?

I typically serve as an intermediary, coordinating various aspects to ensure everything runs smoothly. To clarify, our focus is primarily on wholesale services where we assist customers with deployments. My role involves managing projects to ensure successful product activation and deployment, acting as a project manager to oversee the process and ensure its smooth execution.

What about the implementation team?

We assist our customers with the implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When compared with other solutions, my end user is satisfied with the costs and believes that Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service is worth the price paid. They found the solution to be effective within their budget.

What other advice do I have?

I give Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service a nine out of ten.

For those searching for a more affordable option in the market, remember the saying 'you get what you pay for'. It's essential to explore various solutions and weigh all options carefully. Saving money is important, but sometimes it's necessary to spend a little extra to acquire a quality product that meets our expectations. Therefore, the cheapest alternative may not always be the best choice. Conducting thorough research is worthwhile to ensure we receive our money's worth.

We deployed the solution at both primary and disaster recovery locations to protect the end user's primary Internet access and backup connections in case they need to be utilized.

Radware sold us a solution bundle that included hardware, and in addition, the Cloud DDoS Protection Service was also included.

Be ready to allocate a considerable amount of time to collaborate with the Radware technical team in order to comprehend and effectively incorporate their product with your current Internet connection.
