Review for Ubuntu 20.10

  • January 19, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
Ubuntu is a very highly customizable operating system, which allows you to install various extensions from gnome extensions (visit https://extensions.gnome.org to see). You can customize your desktop look to macOS, Windows, or of any type you can imagine. There are very cool Appearances you can get like WhiteSur. It also provides you with a very powerful terminal through which you can do absolutely everything and even more of what you get in GUI. A few extensions I would like to suggest like BlurMyShell, Dynamic Panel Transparency, GNOME fuzzy App Search, Open Weather and Floating Dock.
What do you dislike?
Ubuntu still has some reliability issues, like it sometimes crashes or gets hanged, which also made me reinstall it again. Wayland, which is made default in current versions, is also a little buggy as it creates some glitches on my screen on opening a few applications like chrome.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
It's free and packs very powerfull software which you can install to make your experience better with it. It helped me work with a high-end operating system on low-end hardware without facing no OS end support or incompatibility to install the latest software like python 3.10, which is not supported for windows 7 I previously have on the system. It also helps me get familiar with the terminal, which is mainly used in servers.

Simplicity of Linux with a touch of sophistication!

  • January 18, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best?
The best thing about Linux is that it's simple and easy to use. It takes very little of the system's potential for itself and performs like a charm. It doesn't come with bloatware.
What do you dislike?
The most quirky thing about Linux is that it doesn't support all the software that windows support, and even though Ubuntu Desktop does a fantastic job of a daily driver but the difference still is noticeable
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Since a lot of apps and software, and especially games, don't work on Ubuntu Desktop, the work experience is much less distracting and helps me to be more focused on the work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Before switching to Ubuntu Desktop, make sure that all the essential programs that you use are available.

An excellent operating system for developers

  • January 14, 2022
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best?
The most important aspect regarding the Ubuntu operating system is the flexibility it gives us as developers and the ease with which it allows us to manage the packages required to create a development environment.
Another advantage related to this point is that Ubuntu is compatible with most development IDEs.
What do you dislike?
The only negative thing that I can find for Ubuntu is that sometimes there is incompatibility with other environments, for example if you are working in a hybrid environment with Windows machines, communication will not always be easy, to obtain this communication, sometimes you have to look for tools from third parties or install extra packages that sometimes increase the complexity a bit.
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Ubuntu can solve any problem that arises for its user, it is a powerful system, light and comes with several applications already installed that make life easier for the user, especially in development environments.
One of the most important problems that Ubuntu solves is that being lightweight and open source significantly reduces costs, which is ideal for Start Ups.

A good Unix Ditro

What do you like best?
The most important factor is that it is a free distro. The UI is very much user-friendly like Windows or Mac which makes the transition easy from a user's point of view. This has a good set of pre-installed packages and all the essential tools are shipped with the OS itself. Easy installation.
What do you dislike?
Support and helpdesk forums are very limited and not extensive and the mainstream OSs which makes troubleshooting specific issues difficult. Frequent updates and at times updates are unstable or long lead times to bug fixes. Not as extensive as a fully-fledged Linus OS as this is a Debian distro
What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Basic shell scripting, code testing, connecting to linux servers , local dev env for linux based apps. Use it a secondary OS is dualboot. Using it for sandbox testing of some applications
