Automated firewall governance has transformed change reviews and now reduces manual effort dramatically

  • April 23, 2026
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Our main use case for AlgoSec is automating firewall policy management and change risk analysis. We use it to review requested network access changes, simulate the impact across multiple firewalls, and ensure the rule complies with the client's requirement before implementation.

A quick example using AlgoSec is that we had a request to allow an application server in the internal network to access a database in a restricted zone over TCP 1443. Instead of manually checking each firewall, we entered the source and destination port and the services into AlgoSec change request workflow. AlgoSec automatically analyzed the path across multiple firewalls, identified where rules were missing, and flagged that one existing rule in the perimeter firewall was too broad. It recommended creating a more specific rule and tightening the existing one. We implemented the suggested rules, validated connectivity using simulation, and attached the AlgoSec risk and compliance report to the ticket. The change was approved quickly, and we avoided creating overly permissive access.

What is most valuable?

The best features of AlgoSec mainly revolve around firewall visibility, automated change management, and compliance. Some more valuable features are firewall policy analysis and optimization, automated change management, FireFlow, end-to-end network visibility, application connectivity mapping, risk and compliance reporting, and multi-vendor firewall support.

The feature we use most in AlgoSec is the automated firewall change management and path analysis. Most of our day-to-day work involves processing network access requests. AlgoSec lets us simulate traffic flows, identify which firewalls are in the path, and automatically suggest the exact rule which is needed. This eliminates manual checks across multiple devices and significantly speeds up approvals. This brings the most value because it reduces change implementation time, minimizes human error in the firewall rules, prevents overly permissive access, and provides built-in risk, compliance, and validation.

AlgoSec has impacted us positively. Before AlgoSec, access requests required manual firewall review, which was time-consuming and error-prone. With the automatic path analysis and rule recommendation, we can process changes much faster and with more confidence. It also gave us clear visibility into application connectivity and helped identify overlapping, permissive, and unused rules, improving our overall security posture. Additionally, the built-in compliance checks and audit reports reduce the effort needed for audits and policy reviews, saving time for both security and network teams.

What needs improvement?

AlgoSec as a product is very good, but regarding patches and upgrades, every time we have an issue with AlgoSec, the TAC team comes on our call and asks us to do the patch upgrade or they will create a custom vulnerability patch for the particular OS or particular customer. I hope the R&D team will improve in this area and the TAC team or R&D team of AlgoSec will improve their overall support processes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using AlgoSec for around a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

AlgoSec is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is very high and impressive for AlgoSec.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support is moderate. I have a very moderate experience with the technical support. It should be improved because sometimes they just ask for logs and other documentation, but when we ask them to come on a call, they come based on their requirements or their time. They should be available based on the customer's availability.

What was our ROI?

Money is not saved, but definitely time is saved. As I previously mentioned, 50 to 60 percent of manual tasks are reduced, and manual error is also reduced. The change request access previously took around 45 minutes to one hour, but now it takes 5 to 10 minutes. These are the measurable changes around the time saved, and money is not saved because the product also costs on the higher side.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

AlgoSec is mainly used for enterprise-grade customers who have thousands of rules in their organization, so based on this, pricing is on the higher side compared to other brands and other OEMs. The pricing is very high, the setup cost is very high, and the software is also very high. However, it provides very good output to reduce manual work. The setup was pretty straightforward and smooth, but a little on the higher side since this product is used by large enterprise customers.

What other advice do I have?

If you are a small organization, then you should not go with AlgoSec. But if you are an enterprise customer like a bank, insurance, or something else that has thousands of rules in your firewalls, then you should conduct a demo or POC, be satisfied with your use case, and deploy this solution in your organization. I gave this review a rating of 8.

What is our primary use case?

AlgoSec's main use case is firewall policy management, including change analysis and risk assessment, and ensuring policies compliance before implementation.

When a new firewall rule is requested, I use AlgoSec to check the rule's impact and associated risk before implementation, which helps to identify conflicts, compliance issues, or unnecessary exposure, allowing us to make changes safely without manual drift and error.

AlgoSec fits well into my daily workflow by acting as a validation layer before any firewall changes, helping to streamline approval, reduce back and forth with teams, and ensure we follow security and compliance standards without slowing down operations.

What is most valuable?

The best features of AlgoSec are firewall policy and policy analysis, risk assessment, and change impact analysis, which stand out because they save time, reduce error, and provide clear visibility before any firewall changes are made.

AlgoSec's visibility feature helps us to clearly understand existing firewall rules and traffic flows across the network, and in one case, policy analysis helped identify redundant and risky rules before a change, preventing unnecessary exposure, while the clear visualization and reporting make complex policy much easier to manage and audit.

AlgoSec has had a positive impact by improving visibility into firewall policy and risk, reducing manual effort, increasing team productivity, helping prevent configuration errors, and enabling safer, faster network changes across the organization.

AlgoSec has clearly increased productivity, cutting firewall changes and risk analysis time by almost 60% to 70%, as tasks that earlier took one to two hours are now completed in 10 to 15 minutes, resulting in a noticeable reduction in configuration errors and rework.

What needs improvement?

AlgoSec can be improved by simplifying the UI and reducing the learning curve, while a new user, faster reporting, more customizable dashboards, and clearer documentation specifically for advanced use cases would make it even more efficient for day-to-day operations.

In addition to UI and documentation improvements, better customization of reports and dashboards would further enhance the experience, while simplifying integration with newer cloud and security tools and more guided workflows for advanced configuration would make AlgoSec even more user-friendly and efficient.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using AlgoSec for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

AlgoSec is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

AlgoSec scales well and can handle growth without major issues, managing increasing firewall rules, policy changes, and workloads effectively, as long as proper planning and tuning are done in larger environments.

How are customer service and support?

AlgoSec customer support has been good overall; we haven't needed to contact them frequently, but when we did, the responses were timely, and the support team was knowledgeable and helpful in resolving issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before AlgoSec, we mainly relied on manual firewall rule reviews and native tools provided by firewall vendors, and we switched to AlgoSec to get centralized visibility, automated risk analysis, and structured change management, which significantly reduced manual effort and error.

How was the initial setup?

The setup itself was manageable, and deployment requires some planning, but overall, the efficiency gains and reduced manual effort make the cost worthwhile.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a clear return on investment with AlgoSec, as firewall change and risk analysis time has dropped by around 60% to 70%, reducing tasks from hours to minutes, helping the team handle more requests without adding headcount while also lowering the risk of misconfiguration and rework.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing for AlgoSec is on the higher side, but it's justified by the value it delivers; there is an initial setup and licensing cost, and deployment requires some planning, but overall, the efficiency gains and reduced manual effort make the cost worthwhile.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated other options, mainly native tools provided by firewall vendors and manual policy review processes, and AlgoSec stood out because it offered centralized visibility, automated risk analysis, and structured firewall changes and management across multiple vendors.

What other advice do I have?

My advice would be to clearly understand your firewall environment and processes before deploying AlgoSec, while also investing time in proper initial setup and policy tuning to get maximum value, as once implemented, it greatly improves visibility, reduces manual effort, and supports safer, faster network changes.

AlgoSec has been a strong and reliable solution for managing firewall policies and security, streamlining our processes, improving visibility, and adding real value to our day-to-day security operations, making it a tool to deploy despite a few areas that could still be improved. I would rate this review as nine out of ten.
