Automated firewall governance has improved risk analysis and simplifies daily policy changes
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for AlgoSec is managing and analyzing firewall and network security policy on a daily basis. I use it for change management, risk analysis, and getting clear visibility into policy impact before making changes. AlgoSec is used for firewall policy management, changes, and security risk management.
AlgoSec has become a part of a standard firewall governance process for us. It helps to maintain consistent security policies, reduces manual validation effort, and gives confidence before implementing any network changes.
What is most valuable?
The best features of AlgoSec for me are firewall policy analysis, risk assessment, and change impact analysis, which help quickly identify rule conflicts, ensure compliance, and safely implement changes without manual checks.
AlgoSec's usability is great because it is easy to use and presents complex firewall policy in a clear, understandable way. The reporting is helpful for audit reviews, and its integration with multiple firewall vendors makes day-to-day management much smoother.
AlgoSec has positively impacted our organization by improving visibility into firewall policy and reducing manual effort, increasing team productivity and helping us manage security risk more confidently by catching issues before changes are implemented.
What needs improvement?
AlgoSec could be improved with a more modern and intuitive user interface, especially for new users. Initial setup and policy tuning can also be complex, and faster reporting or more customizable dashboards would make day-to-day work even easier.
Better and more concise documentation would help, especially for advanced use cases. Improving integration with newer technology and making support response faster would also enhance the overall experience.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using AlgoSec for about two years, with over a year of practical experience.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
AlgoSec is stable and reliable for us. We have not experienced major outages or crashes, and it has performed consistently for day-to-day firewall policy analysis and risk management tasks.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
AlgoSec scales well to handle growth and increased demand. It manages large rule sets and more firewall changes without issue, helping us maintain visibility and control as the environment expands.
How are customer service and support?
AlgoSec customer support has been responsive and helpful whenever needed. While we have not had frequent support interaction, in the few times we reached out, the team was knowledgeable and assisted us effectively in resolving issues.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before AlgoSec, we relied on manual firewall rule review and vendor-specific tools. We switched to AlgoSec to gain centralized visibility, automated risk analysis, and better control over firewall policy changes, which significantly reduced manual effort and error.
How was the initial setup?
The experience with pricing for AlgoSec is that it is on the higher side, but justified considering the features and value it provides. There was some initial setup and licensing cost, and the setup required planning and effort, but it was not a major issue. Once deployed, licensing is straightforward, and the operational benefits outweigh the upfront cost.
What was our ROI?
We have seen a clear return on investment with AlgoSec, mainly through time-saving and error reduction. Firewall rule analysis and risk checks that earlier took hours now take minutes, reducing rework and manual effort, allowing the same team to handle more change requests without needing additional resources while also lowering the risk of misconfiguration.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated a few other options, mainly native firewall vendor tools and manual policy review approaches. We chose AlgoSec because it provides centralized visibility, automated risk analysis, and better control over firewall policy management compared to the alternatives.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for others looking into using AlgoSec is to clearly understand your firewall environment and use cases before deploying it. Spend some time on proper initial setup and policy tuning, as this helps you get the most value. Once configured, it significantly improves visibility, reduces manual effort, and supports safer network changes.
AlgoSec has been a valuable addition to our security operations. It brings structure, visibility, and confidence to firewall policy management, and despite a few areas for improvement, it delivers consistent value in day-to-day security operations. I would rate this product an 8 out of 10.
Automated change auditing has transformed incident resolution and simplifies compliance reporting
What is our primary use case?
AlgoSec's primary use case is for change auditing and change monitoring on security devices. It helps in receiving regular alerts about changes happening on devices, making it much easier to audit those changes, identify any issues, and figure out which recent changes caused them.
We experienced a critical issue when our perimeter firewall, which was a Check Point firewall, was not processing traffic. All traffic through our data center going towards the internet and requests coming from the internet to our data center were not working, creating a complete outage situation. To identify what caused it, I verified the AlgoSec logs through the auditing functionality and checked the recently made changes that might have caused the issue. This helped us determine what changes were made recently. We rolled back those changes, and the issue was fixed without spending more time on troubleshooting.
AlgoSec also helps us in auditing. We have auditing happening every year, and we track what changes we make, what the change requests were against those particular changes, and ensure that changes had required approvals in place, making overall auditing and compliance easier for us.
What is most valuable?
The standout feature of AlgoSec is real-time monitoring and alerting. We receive emails for every change that happens on any of the devices, with the ability to customize the email and integrate it with ticketing tools to review whether a change request was raised or not. AlgoSec also provides historical auditing of the devices with changes, allowing us to store logs at an external syslog.
In my day-to-day work, I rely most often on real-time monitoring and change auditing.
The impact of AlgoSec on my organization has been positive. Manual intervention has completely decreased because when the compliance or legal team comes to us asking about what changes happened in the last quarter or two quarters, it used to be a manual task. Now we can export the logs within a few minutes by selecting the target device and the time period for the changes, making it very much less time-consuming and more productive.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see automation support on AlgoSec, allowing me to run scripts and API calls to export whatever I need.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using AlgoSec for more than two years, and I also used it in my earlier experience when I was part of previous companies.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
AlgoSec is quite stable in my experience with no downtime or reliability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
AlgoSec handles growth well, demonstrating good scalability.
How are customer service and support?
When we are unable to export audit logs for a specific firewall or device, we raise the case with their support team and receive timely help from them. I can give the customer support a rating of ten. Although I did not have many requests, I received timely assistance whenever I raised a case.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did not use a different solution earlier, but we did explore various products while selecting AlgoSec. Before choosing AlgoSec, we evaluated a few options, including NetMRI as one of the solutions.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment with AlgoSec. It is a complete time-saver, reducing the workload on the individual or team and enabling them to invest that time into more productive tasks.
What other advice do I have?
If you are looking for an auditing tool to check or audit the changes happening around your network devices or security devices, and you want to export auditing logs or track changes, you should definitely evaluate AlgoSec. I would rate this review a nine out of ten.
Automation has accelerated change delivery and now needs richer security profiles and data capture
What is our primary use case?
AlgoSec is implemented for making changes, with FireFlow used for implementation and Firewall Analyzer used to remediate our rule review part and to optimize the rules. FireFlow implements the changes from AlgoSec.
For a recent example, we use AlgoSec for the rule review part to determine how many unused rules, disabled rules, and rule deletions are available in the firewall, which we identify from the ASM. For implementation, we have raised a ServiceNow request, and ServiceNow raises the request to AlgoSec through an API call. From that, we implement the changes by making a plan and creating a work order, then implementing from AlgoSec to the firewall.
What is most valuable?
We are achieving significant improvements. Earlier we implemented only around twenty changes per day, but after implementing AlgoSec, we now implement around thirty to forty changes within half an hour, and in a single day, we are implementing more than one hundred changes. AlgoSec positively impacts our organization as we now implement more than eighty to ninety changes per day from AlgoSec, which is significant. We have also handled around fifty thousand to sixty thousand unused rule deletions, collecting that data from AlgoSec and taking action accordingly.
The great features of AlgoSec are FireFlow and IPT. For FireFlow, we are implementing the changes from FireFlow, which is a good tool. For IPT, we can analyze which rules or policies we have and how many hits are there. If there are multiple subnets, we can see how many IPs are currently in use from that subnet, making it easy to identify IPs or services. AlgoSec now also provides recommendations for using only source IP, destination IP, and services.
What needs improvement?
To improve AlgoSec, we need enhancements in improved security profiles for some of the firewalls and App-IDs. We also need support for the VIP part in FortiGate. For instance, when using VIP in FortiGate, that part needs improvement since there is no support for the VIP or NATing concept while planning to create a work order.
For suggestions on improvement, I would recommend that the MBS part, meaning the baseline part, should capture more data from AlgoSec. Currently, only thirty to fifty data points are captured. We need to capture all the data recommended by vendors in Check Point, FortiGate, and others. Additionally, we need to capture data from ICE or Cisco routers and switches, and taking backups from AlgoSec will be extremely helpful for both AlgoSec and us.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using AlgoSec for around four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of AlgoSec is good.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support for AlgoSec is good.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment. AlgoSec is an automation tool that is beneficial for everyone and saves time.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing is good, and it was not a big challenge for licensing.
What other advice do I have?
This increase in implemented changes and identifying unusual deletions has greatly benefited our team by reducing the time taken for implementations. Earlier there were human errors while implementing changes. Now, when we try to implement from AlgoSec, human errors have decreased, leading to full automation. AlgoSec is a good tool, and I believe everyone needs to use that tool. I would rate this review seven out of ten.
