Easy web mapping accessible to anyone
What do you like best about the product?
It has an intuitive layout which makes anyone with a spatial background easy to carry out computational activities. For someone not from a spatial background, there are lots of tutorials and helpful guides to help get you started. It's easy to use and easy to customise whatever maps/dashboards you are visualising.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some analysis tools can be hard to use at first without some guidance.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was using CARTO for a university assignment - the assignment was to create a customisable dashboard using open-source data which allowed people to pan around the map and interact with widgets to change what data was being displayed. CARTO allowed for this process to be easy.
Great value out of the box
What do you like best about the product?
It was extremely easy to create powerful map based insights and it was possible with some effort to create customized ad-hoc dashboards with maps. Interactive reports with filtering capabilities created added value.
Available external datasets where also very useful.

What do you dislike about the product?
It was not that easy by that time to provide non map based charts together with the maps.
Licesing schema was not so flexible for some use cases, specially in on premise deployments.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Time ago, IoT and data based smart city solutions. The most important benefit was to introduce geographical analysis and representations easily and create map based solution without a GIS platform behind.
On the other hand, integrating external open data was easy and provided a great way to extract value from public administrations open data.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start with Builder but consider API based integrations if the case requires it.
Carto is the best mapping solution
What do you like best about the product?
We love how flexible Carto is, but also the quality of the maps we are able to deploy. Trying to create a real-time updated mapping solution without a product like Carto is gigantic time suck, and Carto has made it much easier than other solutions we reviewed.
What do you dislike about the product?
We've had a very good experience with Carto and don't have any negative comments at this point.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We rapidly launched a tool to allow the public to submit details about Covid-19 symptoms they are experiencing to alert local officials. The data gets posted to a live Carto map that is used by first responders, city managers, mayors and public health officials. The tool has given us to foolproof way to display the scope and location of new outbreaks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Find developers that know how to use it and it's a fantastic product.
Carto simplifies the use of interactivity, styling and external data connection
What do you like best about the product?
InfoAmazonia has been using CARTO for many years to translate geospatial analysis into maps. The user-friendly interface, which simplifies the use of interactivity and styling, is very helpful but also the possibility of combining it with the use of CartoCSS syntax language and SQL queries enables to customize and build powerful geospatial visualizations.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing important, but one feature I miss when I embed the maps directly from Carto's website is the ability to define coordinates and minimum and maximum zoom levels for each map.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The easy way in which CARTO allows external data connection and its synchronized update allows us to provide quality journalistic service about the Amazon region. For instance, the real-time connection with fire detection data allowed us to follow the forest fires crisis and enables us to follow up on a daily basis irregular mining processes requests made at the Brazilian national mining agency (Mined Amazon project: https://infoamazonia.org/pt/maps/amazoniaminada/).
Now, in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, the platform once again helps us to provide an important service to the audience: an automated map and dashboard updated daily with confirmed cases and deaths by Covid in the Brazilian Amazon region.

Beautiful outputs that make data easy to understand
What do you like best about the product?
Really user friendly with a dynamic interface - far simpler and more accessible than others we tried.
Also exceptional client care - the team are always alert and quick to respond!

What do you dislike about the product?
Default subscription is priced slightly high for our NGO but was able to chat to the team to explain our mission and they were very accommodating!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows us to show clients data in a way that simplifies the insights even in a complex data base.
Great Set of Tools for GIS
What do you like best about the product?
We like how easy it is to clean up datasets.
CARTOframes makes it easy to combine data from multiple sources, modify it using analytics programs, and publish interactive maps to CARTO.

Carto has uplifted our works relevance
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to setup, Carto Studio has been key in our efforts to outline how the coronavirus crises hits different places.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far so good, still I think it would be hard for us to cope with the actual cost.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a geomarketing company we work to shine a light over places and what makes them outstanding. Carto has provided us an easy to use way to perform our work, allowing the team to focus on data science researches and high impact changes.
We built an economic map outlining how they might emerge after quarantines. Its has been a major success, with lots of media coverage:

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try Carto!!!
Amazing! Easy to use with quick results!
What do you like best about the product?
I love carto. It has made learning how to apply spatial analysis very easy. This is coming from someone who has no experience with data / spatial analysis. I come from a purely architectural background and learned how to use SQL from carto. I also took on a bit of CSS / HTML from using the carto builder interface. It definitely does not replace an actual background in data analysis / gis / computer science, but I don't think I would've learned it as quickly without carto. It is also very aesthetic and easy to use compared to qgis or arcgic
What do you dislike about the product?
I think there are things that can be improved in the interface. Like having limited layers depending on the user and sometimes with styling labels / tooltips -- It can be a bit clunky to use.
I really wish it wasn't so limited to use. The community is small in the sense that the people that do know how to use carto are limited to business users or people who work in carto. Looking up information can be difficult when you do not know where to begin. It's a good thing customer assistance responds pretty quick as there are times when certain mapping analysis are needed asap.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We mostly used it to show information in a spatial format. Sometimes it makes all the difference to see something as a bubble on a map versus seeing a full dataset.
I would really love this to have a way to connect to Tableau as we are leaning in towards using this for its ease of use. Carto definitely beats tableau in terms of aesthetics and flexibility. Having a way to integrate this would be amazing!
