Reliable Linux Distro with Strong Community Support

  • April 30, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate Debian's package manager and the strong community support behind it. It's great because it treats a lot of packages as first-class citizens, which ensures we always have the latest versions of the software we need for development and hosting. Also, Debian's regular updates contribute to its security, which is something we rely on for our virtual machines. The initial setup was pretty standardized, similar to other Linux distributions, which made it useful for us right from day one.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find that when Debian reaches end of life, we don't receive any more security updates for legacy virtual machines, so we're forced to update. While it's not specific to Debian, it still affects us. Also, while other distributions like Alpine are lighter and smaller in size, they often miss many packages which makes Debian the choice for us.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Debian serves as a reliable Linux distro for our virtual machines, supported by a strong community and regular updates for security. Its package manager ensures we have the latest software needed for development and hosting.

Effortless Setup, Robust Server Capabilities

  • April 28, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really like using Debian for a lot of utilities like remote monitoring and using it as a local PHP server, API server, and web server. It's easier to set up and has an automated server process that doesn't require much interaction from an end user. The interface and ease of use are great. I appreciate being able to install basically any Linux application and easily automate certain functions related to network infrastructure and monitoring. The initial setup process was very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
From a Windows user's perspective, it would be better to have more options in the installation process that offer alternatives to Microsoft applications, allowing the end user to choose at installation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Debian is easy to set up and automates server processes with minimal user interaction. It allows installation of Linux applications and simplifies network monitoring.

Efficient and User-Friendly, Minor Setup Hiccups

  • April 27, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like Debian because it's a lightweight distro and user-friendly, which makes it run efficiently without unnecessary overhead, and that's great for development. Additionally, I find it enables ease of use, especially with Bash scripting, making my personal and academic work straightforward.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find the availability of newer software and hardware/driver support in Debian could be improved. It would help if there were clearer paths for opting into newer developer tools, perhaps through better-documented backports, official containerized packages, or curated bundles for AI/cloud/dev workflows. Additionally, the initial setup feels a bit less polished compared to some newer Linux distros, particularly regarding first-time onboarding details like Wi-Fi/firmware detection, and graphics or Bluetooth drivers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Debian simplifies my work with ease of use and bash scripting. It's lightweight and user-friendly, running efficiently without unnecessary overload, making it great for development.

I love Debian's exceptional stability, strong security, and vast software repository, which make it highly reliable for both servers and desktop environments. The package management system using APT is efficient and easy to maintain. The large community support ensures long-term usability and regular updates. Debian's flexibility and minimal resource usage make it an excellent choice for building secure, customizable infrastructure. I find it very easy to use on the desktop environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
One area where Debian could improve is by providing newer package versions more quickly, along with a more intuitive interface for user and network administration to better support less experienced administrators.

Rock-Solid Stability with Minimal Overhead

  • April 23, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Debian offers rock-solid stability; once a server is set up, it just works without needing constant attention. The apt package manager is great because it makes installing and updating software painless, and the massive repository means almost everything I need is available out of the box. The community support is excellent, with extensive documentation for virtually any issue. Debian strikes the best balance between stability and flexibility, which makes it ideal for production environments where downtime directly impacts business operations. I appreciate its stable, low-overhead server environment for always-on production workloads. The lack of licensing costs and minimal resource consumption keep infrastructure expenses low while maintaining reliability. Its package management and long-term support cycles help avoid unexpected breakages during updates, which is critical for running tracking platforms, redirect servers, and Docker stacks that need near-100% uptime. I also love that Debian simplifies reproducibility, making spinning up new instances with the same configuration straightforward, which is very helpful when scaling infrastructure quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main downside is that Debian's stable branch ships with older package versions, which sometimes means you need to manually compile or pull from backports to get newer software. This can be time-consuming when a project requires a recent version of a tool or library. The initial setup can also feel less user-friendly compared to distros like Ubuntu, especially for server configurations that require manual tweaking out of the box. Additionally, the release cycle is slow, so you sometimes end up waiting a long time for major updates to land in stable. None of these are dealbreakers, but they do add friction in fast-moving environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Debian provides a stable, low-overhead environment for production workloads without licensing costs. Its low resource usage and reliable package management system ensure minimal disruptions, and its reproducibility makes scaling easy. Ideal for high-uptime needs like redirect servers and Docker stacks.
