Cyber vault has provided immutable backups and gives me confidence to restore after attacks

  • May 19, 2026
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The main use case for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is the ability to ingest all of my data into my vault. If there is an anomaly or something I need to be aware of, such as a large amount of data being encrypted, I will be able to realize what is going on and proactively restore that data in the vault, even if the data on my production systems in my environment has been compromised. The main use of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is a last-ditch effort to get my data if it has been attacked or damaged and manipulated by a cyber actor.

What I appreciate about Cyber Recovery is that it has a very simple, user-friendly interface. It does exactly what it says it does; it synchronizes the critical data that I need, puts it in the vault, and then allows me to recover it from the vault. From the vault, I can bring it into a clean room and validate that the data can be restored and validated back into my production environment in case all of my systems were to be compromised and wiped out by a threat actor who gained control of my systems.

I am able to ensure data immutability in my IT infrastructure because I conduct mock scenarios, asking how I would restore my data if a cyber event occurred. I can bring up that data in my Cyber Recovery vault and move it into my clean room. When it is in my clean room, I can actually bring up my entire environment as a sandbox to see if every component and application interacts, communicates with itself, and is fully functioning and working. If one of those was attacked by a critical cyber actor, I can pinpoint through reporting that comes with CyberSense when that actually occurred and when that data changed, and I can go back to a previous day to a copy that was protected and allow me to bring back the data retrospectively.

My role in using or managing Cyber Recovery allows me to take all of my critical data that has been backed up currently in my production data domain environment, and then I am allowed via an air gap to send it into a secure Cyber Recovery vault that is in our facility but is protected in different ways.

Using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is a very critical piece of my cybersecurity strategy because it is utilized in situations when I have nowhere else to turn but to my vault. It is critical to have that last backup, the backup you do not expect to have. It gives me, as an administrator doing backup in the organization, peace of mind knowing that all the data I am backing up at a good point in time, even if it were hit by a malicious actor, is protected in an isolated vault that has been security-hardened by Dell experts to prevent it from being compromised.

Prior to adopting Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, I was not using anything for an air gap solution. The only thing I was doing was using crude ACLs to prevent certain assets in my organization from being able to connect to my data domains, which I am still doing. However, it was a very crude poor man's solution for an air gap environment, which is what Cyber Recovery does, exactly what it is supposed to do.

What is most valuable?

What I appreciate about Cyber Recovery is that it has a very simple, user-friendly interface. It does exactly what it says it does; it synchronizes the critical data that I need, puts it in the vault, and then allows me to recover it from the vault. From the vault, I can bring it into a clean room and validate that the data can be restored and validated back into my production environment in case all of my systems were to be compromised and wiped out by a threat actor who gained control of my systems.

My experience with deploying Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery was a lot to handle and understand. In the end, it gives me more clarity into my backup infrastructure. It makes me look more closely at what I am backing up and what I am capable of restoring. This gives me, as a backup administrator handling all my company's important data, a large outlook while providing a narrow view on how to recover all my data; large in terms of being able to see the whole scope of everything that I am backing up, and narrow in that I get to drill down into specific applications to see what is necessary to bring those back in case of a cyber actor attack or event.

What needs improvement?

What I would improve about Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is to make it a little more simplistic under the hood, comparable to PowerProtect Data Manager. It is harder to integrate the pieces together, but I see that on the horizon. The system is very new for what it does, and there are a couple of bugs in the code when it comes to operating with PowerProtect Data Manager, CyberSense, and Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, as they all have to be at certain version levels. From a complexity standpoint, it is very difficult if you are just a person coming in trying to utilize it, as you have to ensure that if there are any upgrades to the product, you are following all the recommended documents.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery since March of 2025.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not experienced any attacks so far. I do, however, conduct frequent mock drills to prepare myself in case an event were to occur.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Currently, my Cyber Recovery satisfies my data needs, with my data domain actually sized around 40% larger than it needed to be, in order to predict the available growth of the data I am bringing into the vault. I also only bring in critical data into the Cyber Vault; anything else I would recover, I just have to recover after the fact.

How are customer service and support?

When I evaluated customer service and technical support for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, it was a very new product, so I faced some challenges. However, after that, I learned how to handle support in terms of engaging multiple specialists. For example, Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery deals almost directly with PowerProtect Data Manager, which means I have to open multiple tickets. This was something new to me, but Dell does a very good job of coordinating all their different branches of support together to help streamline the process.

I would rate technical support and customer support a 10 because honestly, their support specialists go above and beyond. They need to know not only Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, but also several other aspects such as PowerProtect Data Manager to get the vault to actually work and comply. Because of that, they end up fixing things on both sides when they do not normally maintain that product, which is a benefit for me.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to adopting Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, I was not using anything for an air gap solution. The only thing I was doing was using crude ACLs to prevent certain assets in my organization from being able to connect to my data domains, which I am still doing. However, it was a very crude poor man's solution for an air gap environment, which is what Cyber Recovery does, exactly what it is supposed to do.

How was the initial setup?

My experience with deploying Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery was a lot to handle and understand. In the end, it gives me more clarity into my backup infrastructure. It makes me look more closely at what I am backing up and what I am capable of restoring. This gives me, as a backup administrator handling all my company's important data, a large outlook while providing a narrow view on how to recover all my data; large in terms of being able to see the whole scope of everything that I am backing up, and narrow in that I get to drill down into specific applications to see what is necessary to bring those back in case of a cyber actor attack or event.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery in that I am able to recover things and test the validity of my backups at any given time using PowerProtect Data Manager to validate those backups are good. I have not had a cyber attack in my systems, thankfully, but if I do, I will be going to the Cyber Vault to recover.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing was very clear and actually not as bad as I thought. When I was going into this whole thing of getting a Cyber Vault, I was worried about enormous hardware costs and licensing, and that was not the case. Dell created a solution that was able to fit my needs and allowed me to have a Cyber Vault that I knew was very important and critical.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

There was no other vendor or solution I considered other than Dell because it had to work with my heavily Dell infrastructure.

What other advice do I have?

What I would say is that there are a lot of organizations out there, and these organizations are getting hit by cyber actors. It is very important to know that your data is protected and safe, not just in your data domain and structure, but in an isolated vault. If the worst possible scenario happens and all your data gets compromised and encrypted, you have something to fall back on. For every backup administrator out there, it provides the ability to sleep peacefully at night. I would rate this product a 9 overall.

Modern data protection has ensured resilient backups and reliable recovery from cyber incidents

  • May 18, 2026
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Our biggest use case for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is the basic backup and recovery function. We back up our production systems that are critical to our operation, establishing individual recovery points and recovery tasks for them, and protect them from a cybersecurity perspective. If we ever experienced a cyber incident, we would be able to recover all of our production data, anywhere from solutions that run our production floors to some of our core ERP systems.

What is most valuable?

The feature of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery that I appreciate the most is the ability to actually do the job, and having a single-pane screen to manage the whole solution has been a significant benefit.

We have been very happy with the ML-based anomaly detection feature in identifying potential threats, with the machine learning and AI that has been built into Dell's solution. Although we have not used it extensively, it has given us some helpful hints that we have been able to take advantage of. At this point, we are satisfied with it, but we can do much more with it.

Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery has definitely saved us time. It has completed the backup so we can recover, and we have recovered full recoveries as well as individual files, so it has definitely saved us time and accomplished its job.

Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery has impacted our overall cybersecurity strategy significantly. When you move away from protecting your outer walls around your firewalls and educating your people, it has been at the core of protecting our data to ensure that we replicate it and can recover the data that we need. Because everything in this day and age depends on data, and having the ability to have multiple copies of it in different geographic regions has been a major benefit. It is definitely one of our core parts of our overall cybersecurity strategy.

One of the greatest features that Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery brings to the table that has benefited us is the remote replication capability. When we were implementing this PowerProtect and Cyber Resilience solution, we experienced a minor issue with Dell. They sent us the wrong power cord, and addressing this issue took considerable time because we had to retrofit our power in our data center at the site to power that unit. However, we were able to run remote backup, meaning we backed up our manufacturing site in Chocolate Bayou, Texas, to our co-location in Virginia over the network. With our previous solution, we were never able to do this. Although Dell initially recommended doing a backup and recovery locally and then replicating that recovery to the sister site, we used the product to do the backup directly to the sister site. This is a feature that we have been very satisfied with, especially since many competitors claim this capability works but it never does when we test it. With Dell, we never expected it to work, but it actually does, so we are very satisfied with that feature.

Regarding Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery's ability to ensure data immutability in our IT infrastructure, having that local copy and then having that offsite digital copy that we send between the individual sites has given us comfort. Additionally, some of the certification and air gap capability that comes with that built-in solution versus having to buy a third-party one has been beneficial. This is why we chose them. It has given us the ability to have that local copy, the ability to have that replicated offsite copy, and then to have that final copy where it is air-gapped.

What needs improvement?

The biggest improvement that we would like to see for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is how it can be part of the storage side of the world versus being a standalone solution. Currently, being a standalone product is neat, but it means we cannot integrate it with our overall storage strategy. I would prefer to purchase Dell storage and use that storage across both my day-to-day storage and the storage for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery. In my current configuration, I have separate hardware for the backup and recovery and the cyber resilience, and I have different hardware for just storage. Integrating these two would be quite interesting.

From my perspective, the integration between products is not really an obstacle. What matters more is how we as customers can simplify our technology hardware stack on site. From a software perspective, it would be beneficial if they created a solution where I could see my compute, storage, and backup recovery as a single pane of glass. A one-stop shop with one dashboard would be great. This opportunity exists for improvement. From a hardware perspective, simplifying it so I have less hardware on site would be valuable.

I want to reduce my footprint with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery. Reducing footprint is something all manufacturing organizations desire. When you look at all the manufacturing sites around the world, we always have to build a room for IT usage and data center rooms at our facilities. The smaller your footprint, the less cooling and less energy usage you need, which is a win-win scenario. This is what all of us as customers are looking for, which is smaller footprints.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

When we assess the stability and reliability of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery and evaluate the reliability, I would rate it on a scale of zero to ten as being between nine and ten, if not nine point five. It has worked reliably, and every time we have called upon it, it has worked.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not had any issues with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery scaling with the growing needs of our organization. As we change and evolve, they have been working with us very well, and from what we use it for, it has definitely met the requirements that we have set forth. The ability to recover, ability to air gap it, and ability to replicate it have all worked very well for us.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and technical support for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery would be rated at approximately a nine to nine point five. As an end user, we always want them to come to us versus us going to them, and I think that is where the improvement can be. However, every time we have called upon Dell, they have been responsive, whether it is just general questions or if we are having a critical issue. The support and account team have been attentive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Our previous solution was definitely a market leader, Rubrik. They are a phenomenal organization. When we engaged with them, we were a Rubrik customer for over six years, going through two cycles with them. However, we were just undersized, which really prohibited us from completing the basic functions that we needed. When we went back to them, it was just not feasible. This opened the door for Dell, and they came in and worked hard with us. One of the things that Dell was excellent about was listening to us very carefully throughout the whole process. We made it clear that we did not want to be undersized. Today, we are in production and we are not undersized, so it has been a win-win.

How was the initial setup?

When we started the relationship with Dell using their PowerProtect and Cyber Resilience solution, we made it very clear that this was something we could not fail at. They came through with a white glove service and we were able to roll it out globally. We were ahead of schedule. In the US, we deployed it in three months and globally, we completed it within the following six months.

What about the implementation team?

When we do our selection of our solution, we always run a proof of concept. Dell was very flexible with us, and they actually brought in their solution, put it in our facility, and allowed us to test it thoroughly to ensure it worked for us. This was important because we could truly see that the solution was going to work for us. Additionally, the relationship with Dell was critical. We were already a significant Dell presence within our organization, using them for our end user clients, our computing in the back end, and our storage. Adding them on for data recovery protection and cyber resilience was almost a natural choice. They provided us with a great relationship and have always taken care of us.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment that we have seen with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is fundamental. It actually works. I understand that sounds unusual and should be standard IT practice, but with our previous predecessor, we were undersized and under-scoped, and every time we went back to them, it cost more and more. We could not even complete our fundamental backing up of something as simple as a file share, not to mention application backup. With Dell's solution and their PowerProtect and Cyber Resilience, we have been able to overcome all of that. The ROI has been in being able to overcome those limitations. We have been able to shift the management of it from personnel in the US to our international team, so we have seen some financial value there as well. This demonstrates how simple it is to operate their solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have been very satisfied with the pricing, licensing, and setup costs of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery. It was extremely competitive when we went through the evaluation with its peer. At the end of the day, we did add on other components, and I think sometimes the piecemealing could be better. I understand why they do that, but from a customer perspective, if they had a general license, it would be beneficial. It was definitely competitive, but it could be improved.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at Druva and Cohesity as well, so we evaluated all the primary players out there. We do that as part of our cycle. Every three or four years, whenever our cycle is with our solutions, we always go back and double-check it.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to anyone evaluating Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is to always make sure you test it thoroughly so you understand what you are getting. Once you start testing it, you are going to fall in love with it and you are going to be a Dell customer. I would rate Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery a nine on a scale of one to ten, with one being worst and ten being best. I give it a nine because it fundamentally works and checks off the box. The rest of the rating is because they continuously listen, grow with you, and help you expand your cybersecurity strategy. Building a strong cybersecurity strategy is like building a house. If you do not have a solid foundation, you will have a lot of problems. Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is one of the pillars that gives us a solid foundation above and beyond protecting our network and educating our people. It is about protecting our data and our core applications that we need, and it performs reliably in that capacity.

Backup and recovery have improved security with VMware integration and faster restore times

  • April 30, 2026
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My use case for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is mainly backup and recovery. We are a customer of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery.

What is most valuable?

The best features that I like about the solution are the integration with VMware, which is a real plus. Additionally, I think the data domains are incredible. It helps my IT infrastructure be more secure mainly because we have replication of the backups on two physical sites, which is a plus.

What needs improvement?

Regarding the machine learning-based anomaly detection feature of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, we are not using that currently. I am not quite sure what you mean when you ask how I assess its ability to ensure data immutability in my IT infrastructure.

In terms of areas for improvement in Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, I think the bare-metal part can be improved. However, the VMware and SQL functionalities are really good. My main problem is with the bare-metal recovery. The API can also be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I think if the API issues were resolved, I would rate the stability higher, but now it is a seven.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I find it scalable for my business needs. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate the scalability an eight.

How are customer service and support?

On a scale of one to ten, I would rate the technical support a seven or eight. You can give them eight because every time I have a call, they have a solution, so there is no problem with that.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Having used Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for four years, I can say it has helped my business significantly, especially compared to when we were using NetWorker, which was a pain in the ass. PowerProtect Data Manager is far better than our previous solution.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment was straightforward, so I had no problems with that. It took about two days for the deployment. This includes the installation of the data domain.

What about the implementation team?

Regarding maintenance for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, we are doing it ourselves. The updates and maintenance are not much work, but there are hiccups in the API of the backup solution, and we still have a ticket open with Dell for a long time now because the API is not responsive in some ways. The API can also be improved.

What was our ROI?

With Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, I have noticed a reduction in recovery time of about twenty percent.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Regarding pricing, I find it a lot cheaper than Veeam. With Veeam, you have to license every asset, but here you can also do it on capacity. Pricing-wise, it is better than Veeam, but I am not quite aware of the exact prices.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

At the moment, I am not comparing Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery with other vendors because I still have a license for the next two years, but in my previous job, I used Veeam, and to be honest, the bare-metal recovery of Veeam is better. The VMware integration is really good in PowerProtect Data Manager, but the bare-metal recovery is a little bit not straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

Before we start, my only question is that we are only using the Data Protection Manager, so not the full suite.

The users using the backup solution mainly consist of me and my colleague. We have integrated it into VMware, so users can restore or take backups of their own VMs, but I am not sure how many are using it because the backups are automatic, and for restores, I think some of them are using them.

I would certainly recommend this product for the backup of the VMs, but for the bare metal, I recommend it a little bit less. Overall, I give this solution a rating of eight.

Air gap protection has secured our backup workloads and provides strong ransomware defense

  • April 29, 2026
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use cases for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery involve all the backups, typical workload, and backup workloads as we are moving to cyber recovery.

What is most valuable?

What I appreciate most about Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is its air gap functionality.

The main function of cyber recovery, which I find important, is the air gap protection, and that is the most important capability we are using against ransomware protection.

The benefit to my company is that our backup workloads are protected, and that is the best feature.

What needs improvement?

I think Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery can be improved by including the clean room as part of the product because currently, the clean room is an additional component, and if it will be part of the CRS, then it will be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Until now, I have not experienced any downtime, crashes, or performance issues with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery because we have a support contract with Dell, and we have not faced any issues. If we encounter any critical issues, we have a four-hour on-site response time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is already full-featured. The scalability in the storage is what I mean by scalability.

How are customer service and support?

Dell's support and customer service are excellent, which I would rate as five out of five. We have an account manager for enterprise solutions and local on-site support with a resident engineer positioned on-site.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not consider any other solutions before choosing Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery because we are currently using the Dell backup solution, and it is the most aligned with the CRS. We never used any other solutions before this and directly implemented the CRS.

What was our ROI?

The biggest return on investment when using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery comes from its ransomware protection feature.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not commenting on the price, setup cost, or license because I am a technical person and do not have knowledge about the cost. My management is deciding that part.

What other advice do I have?

Beyond just Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, our company is an enterprise user of the complete Dell solution, including PowerProtect Data Domain, PowerProtect Data Manager, PowerMax, PowerStore, and VxRail solutions. All of our products and storage systems are from Dell.

If companies are using the PowerProtect solutions, such as PowerProtect Data Domain and NetWorker or PPDM, then it is beneficial to connect with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for ransomware protection.

I would rate this review an 8 out of 10.

Ransomware attacks have been contained and clean data restores are now guaranteed

  • April 28, 2026
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

Clients primarily use Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery to ensure they can restore from any ransomware attacks, creating a form of protection that guarantees customer restoration in the event of a ransomware incident.

What is most valuable?

One of the key advantages of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is the isolation capability, which is very important, along with the intelligence that occurs through analytics taking place inside the vault. The second advantage is immutability. I have two main benefits from deploying Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery: early detection in case of an attack and fast restoration. With early detection, if ransomware attacks occur, the analytics in the vault will analyze data and identify threats early once they are detected. This ensures that attackers will not remain inside the customer network for an extended period. The second advantage is restoration, as I can guarantee that the data inside the vault will be clean and can be restored quickly using a golden copy that has been identified as clean. Unlike in normal backup scenarios where there might be hundreds of backups with no certainty about which one is clean, we have a clean backup copy already identified for quick restoration. Additionally, by creating a clean room, I can restore critical VMs directly from there, allowing for faster restoration rather than waiting to clean the infrastructure first.

What needs improvement?

I do not see any significant negatives in Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, but if we could create some bundles for SMB customers, that would be useful, especially since it is primarily targeted at enterprise customers.

From a technical perspective, I believe the solution is perfect and does not need additional features. However, AI integration is a great idea that could help significantly. We are currently using CyberSense, but it would be beneficial to deploy an AI model inside the vault for more accuracy and faster restoration by scanning the data for any anomalies or unusual behavior.

For how long have I used the solution?

I confirm that I have been working with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for about five years, and in general, I have worked in this domain for about ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is stable and reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Regarding scalability, I can scale Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery freely without significant limitations.

How are customer service and support?

For customer support from Dell, I would rate them nine points out of ten due to the crucial role they play in projects, helping customers restore their data.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In my company, we have used competitors like Rubrik, Cohesity, and Acronis, but I do not engage much with them. Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery has the most complete vision on this topic, and the NIST certification ensures 100% data isolation compared to other vendors.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment procedure for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery requires some skills. I cannot say it is complex, but it does require some certified resources to perform efficiently.

What about the implementation team?

Currently, about 90% of the projects are deployed by Dell, but certifications are available for partners and customers to manage deployments as well.

What was our ROI?

It is possible to observe ROI with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery because the costs incurred from paying ransoms or decrypting data will be much higher than the solution price itself, providing customers with confidence in their last line of defense.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I do not consider Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery to be expensive as it provides value relative to the ransom that would need to be paid to restore data and the difficulties faced after an attack. It is crucial to have this solution because ransomware attacks are common. I suggest having special bundling for SMB customers.

What other advice do I have?

The administrative interface of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is user-friendly.

The ability of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery to automate data recovery tasks is effective. Once a problem arises, I can restore the data directly inside the VMs in the vault due to having a clean space available.

I work with data encryption in Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, which is very important to ensure that only the right authorized persons are accessing the data, a very important feature for our customers.

Even though I believe bundles for SMB customers and AI improvements could be developed, I still give it maximum points. I give this product a review rating of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Recovery from cyber attacks has become faster and more reliable with strong data isolation and encryption

  • November 12, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is total resiliency against cyber attacks.

What is most valuable?

The feature I like the most about Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is that we get top-of-the-line cyber attack scanning, and we get total retention locking on our media.

The benefits of those features for our company are that we know we can recover from a cyber attack at any time.

What needs improvement?

As for how the solution can be improved, I would like the features to be more integrated, and I have discussed that with our account team. I would like more visibility into what is going on with the individual backup images and how they are being scanned, so there are some automation and visibility features that could be enhanced.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for just a few years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability and reliability of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery are very good, as we have not had any outages on it, just a couple of minor issues but nothing major.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our solution is scalable, and we just scaled it recently by adding memory.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been pretty good; however, I would like to see better integration with Dell support and the third-party integration for the scanning part of it, specifically Index Engines, but we are getting there.

I would rate the support a six out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I was not using another solution that does the same before choosing Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment process was straightforward because we partnered with Dell on the deployment, allowing us to get that done with Dell's assistance.

What about the implementation team?

Integrating Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery into our existing IT infrastructure is not that difficult because we were using Dell backups in our infrastructure.

What was our ROI?

The biggest return on investment for me when using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is that if we had an attack, we would be able to recover in hours instead of weeks or months, which is a lot of risk reduction.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is acceptable due to our enterprise licensing agreement, so a lot of what we do is built into the license, although some of the licensing of the hardware could be better because as we go into the bigger hardware, the price per terabyte is a little more, but it is something we are working with our account team to address.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

While I was using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, the team was looking at other solutions, but this was definitely the most resilient.

What other advice do I have?

My impression of the administrative interface of Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is that it is very user-friendly and pretty intuitive.

Regarding the solution's ability to automate data recovery tasks, we have not had to do mass recoveries yet, but we know we can do it with the tool and we do restores out of Networker.

Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is absolutely able to protect our company's critical data.

We know how it protects our critical data because we are watching it all the time; it is locking snapshots, protecting and isolating our backups, and we know our backups are there if we need to recover.

We are using the recent feature addition for enhancing data encryption.

As far as I know, the feature has been good because it encrypts the data.

My advice for someone or some company that is considering the solution is to understand the manpower involved because it does require a lot of attention; it does not run by itself. Once it is set up, it does run, but it requires quite a bit of admin.

I would rate this product an eight out of ten overall.

What do you like best about the product?
Said backup system includes both the storage and the software to do the backup work, therefore it does not entail additional costs.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not very flexible since the replication only works between storage equipment of the same model, not as towards older models.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps me make backups of my entire virtualized server infrastructure.
