Best structured course provider for technical topics I've used

  • July 08, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Disclaimer: I received a discount on my next purchase of a Nanodegree program for writing this review.

I've graduated from the Deep Learning Foundation program, am enrolled in the AI one and have gone through some other courses. I found consistent quality in the content: the nanodegree programs are comprehensive and well structured, they offer a mix of theory and practice and documentation/support is readily available.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the practice exercises are very generic so don't expect them to be a career builder. Udacity is a great place to break the ice on a technical topic and become proficient enough to build on. It's also very expensive and fairly time consuming so do plan ahead before enrolling.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Udacity to get started in a particular field, gain first hand exposure and learn about theoretical concepts.

Great online school to learn coding and data science

What do you like best about the product?
I took a nanodegree (7 -month program) in data analysis. The content of the class was great, and I still go back to it sometimes - especially the statistics part (you can access course content for one year after graduation). I enjoyed the interaction with other students, and there was online help available if you got stuck. Most projects were engaging, and if you personalize them enough you can use them after graduation to build your online portfolio.

One of the best things about the program though was a one-hour interview prep where you got to do a mock interview with SQL questions. I think these should be done more often, especially after graduation.
What do you dislike about the product?
The most important concern I had was that changes to the program were not communicated well to students. This was something that definitely needed improvement. Other minor quibbles:
-I wish more practice exercises were provided
-sometimes the material was a bit repetitive
-the estimates for completing the course were misleading. You need to put in much more time to finish on time (unless you are already familiar with the material). This is especially important to keep in mind now, when you are charged per duration of enrollment. The good news is that Udacity also provides free courses that cover some of the same material. I strongly advice anyone considering enrollment in a nanodegree to first go through as many of these courses as possible.
-I wish more career advice were provided after graduation instead of during the enrollment period. The class takes so much time that you cannot realistically apply for jobs, or even prepare for the process, when enrolled. Advice on this would be much more useful once the class is over.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Udacity helped me to acquire new data analysis skills (Pandas, matplotlib, numpy packages for Python, ggplot for R, Tableau, statistics, storytelling with data) and to solidify skills that I had been using at work already (SQL). I now have a portfolio of projects I can mention on the resume, and which I continue to work on.

(Full disclosure: I received a discount on my next purchase of a Nanodegree program for writing this review.)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Udacity offers a lot of different programs. Definitely ask customer support which one is right for you as some cover a lot of related material. After you choose your nanodegree, make sure you cover as much of the free courses as you can BEFORE enrolling. And give yourself an extra month to finish on top of Udacity's own estimate.

2 Nanodegrees graduate from udacity and 1 on going nanodegree

What do you like best about the product?
“I received a discount on my next purchase of a Nanodegree program for writing this review."

I received bertelsmann scholarship for the Data foundation and Data Analyst ND in Sep 2018 and enrolled in Data scientist ND end of Dec.

The best thing i like the best about this nanodegree is the projects. the projects are real life projects which makes it useful and helpful in the career.
the main reason that i take and plan to take more nanodegrees is the projects and the variety of topics that it covers that i might not get from my job.
What do you dislike about the product?
the career support.
i was hoping that udacity would provide better support for the alumni and though mentors answered questions sometimes projects review felt lacking or minimal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- the benefit is the projects that cover variety of topics and other skills that i can get a chance to learn in the job.
- i got to work and learn things that i am not learning and my job and got exposure to different important aspects of machine learning and working on projects that i am not familiar with.

Best course ever!

What do you like best about the product?
Useful material, presented in an objective manner with interesting examples and hands-on projects. The course content is introduced in a series of short videos with quizzes in between at just the right amount: not so much that is becomes a nuisance... just enough to make sure you understood the main concepts of a specific topic. The project reviews were incredibly fast (taking less than 24 hours) and very thorough! Also loved the career support. I did notice a huge increase in my profile activity after promoting the recommended changes to my Resume and Linkedin profile. Amazing job!
Full disclosure: I received a discount on my next purchase of a Nanodegree program for writing this review... although I would have written it anyway. I fell I was able to successfully transition career and get a job as Data Analyst due to the amazing technical and career support from Udacity!
What do you dislike about the product?
The personal mentor service did not quite work for me, having a couple of questions never been answered. But to be fair, there were other mentors that were VERY active in the community, providing helpful answer and supporting students getting unstuck! The pricing has been changing a lot lately, with significant increase from what it was a year ago.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I analyze data to identify actionable insights, as well as performing data wrangling. I use SQL in a daily basis to extract data to provide report. The Udacity Data Analyst Nanodegree helped me develop the foundation knowledge and gave me confidence to use statistical analysis in my work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Even though Udacity nanodegree can be quite pricey, it is not the most expensive alternative out there (especially comparing to bootcamps). I feel it is expensive right now, at U$400 per month, but I also know the content is amazing and will help me get where I want (career progression). I have personally tried other platforms, such as coursera and datacamp. They all have their merits. But I still think Udacity is my favorite one! My advice is: try some of their AMAZING free courses to have a "taste" for what their teaching style feels like (I loved the SQL for Data Analysis and Time Series Forecasting)

What do you like best about the product?
Big projects and code review.
Very good video content.
Interesting big and challenge projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
I want more small projects and more tests that will prepare me for tech interview. Will be better if someone will confirm my skills in LinkedIn and write recommendation.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I learn important technology for improving my career.

Data Analyst Nanodegree Review

  • July 07, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
DISCLAIMER: I received a discount on my next purchase of a Nanodegree program for writing this review.

There are three very good things about Udacity:
- Project based learning: you really learn by doing, instead of just reading theory
- Very good videos and explanations: the videos provide a low barrier to entry while also explaining the concepts very well
- Mentor: your mentor can help you with any questions you have, and reviews your projects in depth. He also checks up on you proactively to see how it's going.
What do you dislike about the product?
The content was not super in-depth. You won't be a senior XXX for whatever nanodegree you have done. It will only provide you with a basis to develop yourself further afterwards.
You have to motivate yourself, which is not something Udacity will magically do for you.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has provided a nice baseline for any data analysis I can do now.
It has also given me the tools necessary to go further into machine learning.

One of the best online learning resources, though the support sucks

  • July 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like it because it is based on practical workshops and real world exercises.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Support needs to improve better. From general questions, seeking assistance, and payment refund, I find it very frustrating to talk to them, because their response is very slow, incomplete and didn't solve the problems, especially when you raise another question in the same ticket asking for clarifications, they will never get back to you.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gaining practical skills for use in real world scenarios

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Udacity is the most relevant content that you may not find anywhere else.

“I received a discount on my next purchase of a Nanodegree program for writing this review."
What do you dislike about the product?
I’d appreciate Quick path or fast lane learning, or essentials in addition to a full size nano degree.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Udacity anytime I need to prepare for a new project or new job.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn from the best, you always can audit the course with no cost, use this option if you don’t need official certification of completion.

Udacity as online learning platform for high-tech skills

  • July 06, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Udacity is that they constantly update their content and as a long term user of the platform it is great to see that the content is kept up-to-date. They not only optimize the learning content, but also the structure, style, and presentation, which is very important. I am a big fan of the overall concept of Udacity to offer top notch technical skill education to everyone for an affordable price and I will continue to use their services.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some important concepts could be discussed a bit more in detail sometimes and it can be a bit frustrating to work through a long project and applying things that you feel you haven't fully understood yet. This is where I feel the biggest disconnect to the real world is, e.g. I probably would not have chosen a specific filter or structure of a data pipeline and probably would have gotten a significantly different result. I understand that this is probably one of the hardest things to do for any educational institution to bridge that gap and find the balance between keeping a tight leash, so that the project can be evaluated, but also giving the students enough creative freedom to solve the problem in their own way. The positive here is that they constantly take the students feedback and change the scope of the projects to achieve a good balance. The interaction with other students have been improved, too.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have finished their Driverless Car Nanodegree and various free courses (Statistics, Programming, AI, data analysis, etc.) and are currently working on the second Term of the Nanodegree "AI for Trading".

The virtual support of Udacity team and the practical projects.
I received a discount on my next purchase of a Nanodegree program for writing this review.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes you do everything right, but you do not have the right version of the softwares and you cannot finish the project. It is really frustrating and very hard to identify the problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data analysis and predictive drivers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The number of hours suggested by udaciy is the MINIMUM time you need to finish the course.
