Versatile and Efficient for Linux, Needs Improvement on Windows
What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of use that Coder offers. The strong Kubernetes support makes it easier to maintain and isolate services, and I appreciate the configurability of the templates for each application. It's great that these templates can be managed not only by the platform team but also by individual teams, which eventually allows developers to manage their own infrastructure. I also find the integration with Git to be good as it simplifies the onboarding process. Although we haven't used it extensively yet, I like having AI agents as native support in Coder tasks.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Windows support isn't as strong as Linux, with issues like missing default metrics and hard-to-debug Coder agent problems. Managing multiple services with a single proxy for local development is tough in a microservices architecture, often needing an additional proxy for routing, which is a big blocker and a hassle. The connection between different Coder services/workspaces is cumbersome as environment files need constant updating, especially tricky for Windows systems without subdomain support, making developers focus more on infrastructure than their actual work. The onboarding learning curve was a challenge at the start, even though templating helped eventually.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to provide a consistent environment for everyone, speeding up the setup process. The Git integration makes onboarding easy, and Kubernetes support simplifies service management. Configurable templates empower teams to manage their infrastructure, enhancing efficiency.

What do you like best about the product?
What stands out most about Coder is its ability to create consistent, self-hosted development environments. Another big advantage is its focus on security and control. Teams can run development environments and even AI coding agents on their own infrastructure

The main downside is complexity. Setting up and managing Coder requires a good understanding of cloud infrastructure and DevOps concepts, which makes it less accessible for smaller teams or beginners.
It also feels more enterprise-focused, so for individual developers or small projects, it may be overkill compared to lighter tools.

What do you like best about the product?
I use Coder to enforce secure, compliant, and policy-driven code generation across AI-assisted development. I appreciate how it solves the problem of uncontrolled, insecure, and unobservable use of AI coding tools by adding centralized visibility, policy enforcement, and security guardrails. It prevents sensitive data leaks and ensures consistent code quality by enforcing rules on how AI generates and modifies code. I find it valuable in reducing security risk, ensuring compliance, and giving teams control and visibility over AI-generated content at scale.
What do you dislike about the product?
The setup complexity can be a bit of a hurdle. It might slow down developer workflows due to its strict policies and requires ongoing tuning to avoid being overly restrictive.

I use Coder to enforce secure, compliant code generation and solve uncontrolled, insecure AI coding by providing centralized visibility and policy enforcement, preventing data leaks and ensuring consistent code quality.
Strong cloud dev environment that brings control and consistency
What do you like best about the product?
What I like most is how it creates consistent development environments for every developer. Instead of setting things up locally each time everything runs in the cloud and works the same for everyone. That removes a lot of confusion and setup time.
What do you dislike about the product?
The setup can be complex especially if you are not familiar with infrastructure tools like Terraform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves the issue of inconsistent environments and “works on my machine” problems. Every developer gets the same setup which improves collaboration and reduces errors.It also improves security since code stays on centralized infrastructure instead of local machines. This is useful when working with remote teams or external contributors.

I like that Coder helps enforce policies and maintain compliance automatically, which means fewer risks, easier audits, and a consistent standard across the team without slowing down development or sacrificing developer speed and productivity. The initial setup was also easy.

Slow down edge cases or require extra effort to configure and maintain. It can sometimes trade off flexibility, speed of edge cases, and simplicity.

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Coder simplifies the starting point with its tasks, which prep the environment for me, so I can continue developing on top of it easily. The templates are a big plus as they are easily manageable and extensible, making it easy for different teams' admins to create the necessary development environments they need.

Secure, Noninvasive Kubernetes Workspaces—No Privileges or Docker Socket Needed
What do you like best about the product?
Coder requires no privileges or docker socket required. The Terraform provider uses the Kubernetes API, which is noninvasive and safe for multi-user environments. Sysbox also helps a lot, where it allows noninvasive docker daemon usage.
What do you dislike about the product?
The native Kubernetes coder-k8s project is something to be developed further.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are an academic infrastructure that provides academic and non-profit users Coder, and it fits most of our capability and security needs.

What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy using Coder because it allows my team and me to work on our projects from any device, at any time, in a secure environment hosted in our own cloud.
The UI is very intuitive, it integrates smoothly with many of the products we already use, and the community support has been fantastic.

What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing model could use a bit of adjustment for smaller businesses, but beyond that I don’t have much negative to say about the product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder has really helped our team improve collaboration and streamline our workflow in our environment. It’s boosted productivity across the group by centralizing our IDE platform in one place, which makes it easier for everyone to stay aligned.
Streamlined DevOps with Terraform-Powered Flexibility
What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate the out-of-the-box integrations that Coder has. We can deploy on AWS, Azure, on-prem with Docker, and that's super flexible for us. Plus, being based on Terraform is a huge plus since we already use Terraform for infrastructure-as-code in production. It reduces IT and DevOps overhead because we can use the same tool for our DevOps processes. Coder makes it easy to manage developer instances and keep things uniform across our team. It also enhances security by keeping code on remote servers rather than on user devices. Coder simplifies managing VMs and data persistence, which would be more complicated and painful without it. Alongside that, using Coder with VSCode works really well for me, which I find beneficial.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think project organization/organizing workspaces. Maybe some folder structure or way to organize a bunch of individual projects. In general, I feel like it is hard to deploy one Coder instance company wide—there lacks segmentation that you would want between teams.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to provision workspaces for projects needing more compute than my laptop handles. It manages developer instances, providing uniformity and security with all code on remote servers. It reduces IT overhead related to VM management and data persistence, simplifying scaling.
