Smooth Setup with Strong Open Source Roots

  • April 14, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate that Coder is open source, or at least parts of it, like the core, which means I don't have to worry about vendor lock-in. The company's commitment to open source is really great to see. The application is very smooth and well thought out, making it really nice to use. Coder's main differentiator is that it's super smooth, and they clearly understand developers and what it takes to create good environments. It integrates with Visual Studio Code and Cursor super nicely, allowing me to quickly jump into cloud environments and works super smoothly. Also, the initial setup is super fast, although there's a lot of space to customize as you get going.
What do you dislike about the product?
The pricing for their AI task feature is a little bit unreasonable. Besides that, some of their documentation could be a little bit better. The information is out there, but you sometimes need to jump into the source code.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to quickly set up cloud coding environments without conflicts. It streamlines having everything installed and ready.

Effortless Workspace Provisioning with Endless Expansion

  • April 14, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that all the underlying infrastructure in Coder is written and stored in Terraform, which makes the possibilities for extension and expansion endless. I can run workspaces on anything from Kubernetes clusters to Virtual machines and EC2 instances with just a couple of Terraform modules, and this is all transparent to the user. I also recently discovered the marketplace of modules for connection, which really sets Coder apart. Additionally, the initial setup of Coder for my team was extremely easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maybe improving documentation on how to securely enable the docker socket when inside a K8s container as I had a lot of trouble with that when first starting out and couldn't find comprehensive docs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to provision workspaces, eliminating local development. Coder's Terraform infrastructure offers endless extension possibilities across various platforms, and its module marketplace sets it apart. Initial setup was extremely easy, though better docs on enabling Docker socket securely in K8s could help.

Easy UI but Needs Better Workspace Management

  • April 14, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Coder supports Terraform documents and that it's easy to use. It makes it easy to spin up and spin down containerized environments in a UI that's easy to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'm unable to delete workspaces sometimes. The update workspace feature has never worked for me. It was very difficult to figure out how to set up Terraform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder for managing containerized environments. It makes spinning them up and down easy with a user-friendly UI. I appreciate its support for Terraform documents, allowing usage across different places.

Centralized Development Made Easy with Coder

  • April 14, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Coder allows me to create centralized and isolated development environments for each of my distinct and unrelated codebases. It keeps the environments isolated, so dependencies and tooling for one project don't interfere with another. I also appreciate how it allows me to work seamlessly from different devices without needing to keep environments in sync. The centralized environments make backups simple since I only need to back up the server where they're running. It’s flexible enough for both work and personal projects, and I can use whatever custom tooling I need. A definite perk is being able to give others access to what I’m working on without keeping my laptop online. Also, I can completely customize the workspace to match the different projects and programming languages I work with. It's a huge time saver, especially with updating projects that have the same requirements all at once. Also, allowing temporary access for others is incredibly simple and straightforward with Coder, letting me seek feedback easily without exposing my projects to the internet longer than necessary. Setting up Coder was a piece of cake on my Kubernetes cluster, and it took no time at all.
What do you dislike about the product?
Genuinely I haven't found anything I dislike yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to create centralized, isolated environments. It keeps my projects' dependencies separate, allows seamless work from any device, and simplifies backups by centralizing them on a server.

Programming Made Easy with Coder

  • April 14, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I use Coder to program my projects across different devices, which allows me to conveniently start on the computer and seamlessly continue on the iPad while on the go. I greatly appreciate that thanks to Coder and Devcontainers, I have exactly the dependencies needed for each project available in VSCode and the toolchain. I particularly like the simplicity of starting VMs and distributing them to others, as it allows me to get started right away and implement my ideas without having to wait long or perform extensive installations. Additionally, the initial setup of Coder was super easy, only one command was necessary, and the migration to Docker Compose was straightforward.
What do you dislike about the product?
I haven't managed to get Docker image caching working with the dev containers yet, but maybe it's just me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Coder, I can program projects on different devices, which gives me flexibility. It ensures that I always have the right dependencies for each project and makes it easy to start VMs, so I can quickly get started with my ideas.

Code: Rigorous Isolation and Simplified Deployment

  • April 14, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate the user-friendly interface of Coder, which makes it enjoyable to use. The workspace update system is also a plus, as is the overall stability of the platform. I also like that it allows each development to be isolated and to have different URLs for testing, which is very practical. Moreover, the integration of AI to assist in development is a considerable advantage for me. The initial deployment went well thanks to the Helm Chart.
What do you dislike about the product?
the creation of templates to create workspaces is not straightforward, considering that we are using Kubernetes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coding allows us to isolate our development environments and quickly deploy new environments, whether for an existing employee or a new one. It also offers different URLs for testing and integrates AI to assist in development.

Intuitive, Customizable UI/UX with a Refreshing Open-Source Workflow

  • April 14, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
UI/UX, Workflow simplicity, Freedom to customize, Well made and top of it all? its opensource!
What do you dislike about the product?
The setup of public/remote access coder requires a bit of research. I think without a bit of technical background it will be a little hard to do.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have multiple devices, when I do my work it's just a hassle to manage all of my work manually from those devices. I just use Coder installed on my private server and access it from other devices. Now? no more forgotten work left behind at home or other devices :)

Easy Deployment, efficient workspaces, and cost savings that pay for themselves in very short order

  • October 17, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Coder was extremely easy to deploy and configure. We've had great success configuring devcontainer usage and moving developers from expensive VDI setups to far more efficient Coder workspaces.
What do you dislike about the product?
Coder is still in active development which can mean the newest features aren't quite as polished. We haven't had any deal breakers, but there's always risks deploying the latest versions of anything.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Quick, secure, and easily deployed workspaces for rapid development of a large codebase. Coder is dev-focused and tech forward, and it's saved us countless hours and lots of infrastructure cost.
