Convenient Terminal & Server Launch, but Needs Clearer Guidance for Non-Engineers

  • April 20, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that launching terminal and the development server are at the same location that I can click and open.
What do you dislike about the product?
For someone who has no engineering background, coder didn't really help me better understand the background and relationship between terminal and server. Instead of pushing the code to staging server, I was directly pushing to production server.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder solves the need for me to start localhost through a terminal. Save me some time, but its questionable how much more value it truly brings for me.

Coder Makes Consistent Dev Environments and Faster Onboarding Easy

  • April 20, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Coder makes it much easier to create consistent dev environments, speed up onboarding, and reduce local setup headaches.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main downside is that it can feel a bit complex at first, especially for teams that are still getting familiar with setup, templates, and admin workflows. There can be a learning curve before you get the full value out of it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder is solving the problem of inconsistent development environments, slow onboarding, and the security risks that come with code and data living across individual laptops. By providing self-hosted, repeatable workspaces that can be provisioned through templates, it helps teams get up and running faster, reduces setup friction, and gives more control and visibility over development environments and AI tooling.

Simple, High-Performance Dev Environments with Plenty of Integrations

  • April 20, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The simplicity to manage development environments for a moltitude of users that could not be very fond of such tools (i.e., students, newbies, etc.). The performances are good and there are many integrations available. My use case was for an academic environment, therefore the academic plan was a really good offer to try the product.
What do you dislike about the product?
The set-up and customization can be intimidating if the administrator is not very fond of similar technologies, but such profile is usually supposed to be able to set it up without issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing and setting up environments with different requirements and off-loading the difficulties of managing it from the user to the admin (and the tool).

Quick Setup, Feature-Rich but Complex

  • April 20, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Coder helps me with shipping speed, allowing me to build fast during hackathons. I appreciate the ability to deploy using Coder and maintain with Terraform, which lets me build a secure and robust environment and makes it easy to start building. The initial setup was fairly easy as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Coder seems to have too many features, making it complex to handle all at once. It feels a bit overwhelming. A simpler onboarding or a basic mode with only core features would help.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder for hackathons to increase my shipping speed, helping me build fast. It provides a secure and robust environment, making it easy to start building.

Seamless Setup, Intuitive UI, Great for Consistency

  • April 20, 2026

What do you like best about the product?
I use Coder mostly for creating templates, and I find it helps in keeping consistency in coding standards and best practices. It saves time and is faster when onboarding new developers. What I like most about Coder is that it's very easy to use immediately. The setup was seamless with excellent documentation, and the user interface is very intuitive. I also appreciate its integration capabilities with tools like Claude and other models. My team switched from Windsurf to Coder because Windsurf had issues with Google integrations, but Coder has been a much smoother experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've had problems running it with cursor.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder helps in keeping consistency in coding standards and best practices, and it saves time by onboarding new developers much faster.

Revolutionized Our Virtualization Workflow

  • April 20, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I use Coder primarily as a nice, simple WebUI to launch Terraform, and I like that it isn't too heavily opinionated. Coder allows me to instantly spin up a virtual machine based on templates generated with Hashicorp Packer or container images for a wide variety of uses. I appreciate being able to effortlessly create environments to test things out, and it's great for working on complex tasks from a variety of workstations. It's especially beneficial for giving a team the ability to create cyber environments in a repeatable and centrally managed way. I also enjoy how it efficiently handles resource utilization by turning off workspaces that I am not actively using. The initial setup was incredibly easy, and while I had to learn Terraform, the effort was well worth the reward. I recommend Coder all the time.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of my primary use cases is to create Apache Guacamole connections. These connections are created as soon as the IP address is accessible by Terraform, but I do not have a way to present the connection to the user until after the agent is running. I would love a way to have apps at the 'workspace' level so they are available as soon as Terraform knows about them instead of needing to wait on the Coder agent. The Coder agent actually isn't necessary for the majority of my use cases, and adding this would allow me to simplify my templates and further improve usability.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to instantly spin up VMs for various tasks, manage resources efficiently, and provide repeatable cyber environments. It's a simple WebUI for Terraform, enhancing security with strong passwords and enabling seamless RDP and SSH connections via Apache Guacamole.
