What is our primary use case?
I am a technology analyst. I have been working on a financial project in the US. For this project, I used Splunk APM for troubleshooting and reviewing the logs, and finding errors. Most of our APIs ran on Splunk APM, and we used it to find errors in our production environment.
We are no longer using Splunk APM. We have switched to Dynatrace.
How has it helped my organization?
Splunk APM is very good for monitoring purposes. You can watch application-to-application flows. If you just click on a flow, you can go step by step and debug an issue. The places with errors are marked in red. The API or the application in which you are getting an error is red. From there, you can go to the log or the error, and then the person responsible for that particular API or application has to fix it.
Splunk APM gives tools for user monitoring, logs observability, infrastructure monitoring, synthetic monitoring, and automated on-call.
Splunk APM provides real-time data. In the logs, if you want to see errors related to status 404, you can just write one keyword, and you will get the results.
Splunk APM offers end-to-end visibility across the environment, but it also depends on how your business is set up on Splunk APM.
Splunk APM helped to reduce our mean time to resolve (MTTR). Previously, I had to log into my VPN, run commands, and see the logs. After having Splunk APM, I could click on one link and go through the logs.
We could set up Splunk APM based on our environment. I worked on one project with Splunk APM. In that project, we faced a lot of issues, and I resolved the issues with the help of Splunk APM. I found the accurate logs and the easiest way to resolve the errors.
What is most valuable?
Splunk APM is the most advanced application for performance monitoring and troubleshooting for cloud-native applications and microservices.
The ability to troubleshoot is valuable. While running any product or API, we need to troubleshoot issues. We need to find the error in the logs. In Splunk APM, we have the section logs. In that section, we can search with any particular keywords. Before Splunk APM, I also worked with Splunk Enterprise where we have various dashboards to monitor.
It is an application performance monitoring and observability tool. It is a very good tool. You need to use the documentation on Splunk's website. From there, you can learn many things. I have Splunk certification. You can dive deep into it. For me, it gives end-to-end visibility into our production environment.
What needs improvement?
They can improve the flow system and the keyword language. It has predefined keywords, but they can be improved. I also use LogMeIn where I can use predefined keywords to see the logs.
They should give us the option to use our own language to search. For example, I should be able to search for an ID name along with an error or status code.
For how long have I used the solution?
I worked with Splunk APM for one and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not faced any downtime. I have worked with Splunk APM for one and a half years, and I did not face any downtime during this duration of time.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have never faced any issues with scalability.
How are customer service and support?
I did not have any need to contact support because I did not face any issues.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used another solution previously. In Splunk Enterprise, it is easier to create dashboards. You can easily set up application alerts and infra alerts. You can search with metrics and you can set alerts based on a specific error. Whenever that error occurs, you will receive an alert.
How was the initial setup?
I am not involved in its deployment. In terms of maintenance, it is owned and managed by Splunk. Everything is maintained by Splunk. I have not faced any downtime with Splunk APM. I have also used Splunk Enterprise previously. With both of these products, I did not face any downtime.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is reasonable.
What other advice do I have?
It is a good tool. It allows you to set alerts for application and infrastructure monitoring, and it allows you to create dashboards. You can set alerts based on the threshold or traffic.
For logging purposes, Splunk APM is very good, but we should be able to use our own search query language. Currently, we can only search based on the predefined tags.
Overall, I would rate Splunk APM a nine out of ten.

It's super super fast and user friendly. It makes task execution easy and saves a lot of time, the data accuracy is excellent, also it has the option to create the tables with query which makes the work efficient
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing as such to be disliked about it, yes since it's not a open source like kibana, the only thing is it comes with lots of money. Rest everything seems great.

It solves the problem to collate the required data in an efficient way, it helps in debugging the issues and analysing the bugs via tracing down the exceptions and logs detail.

I like its features and ability to search through logs or data. And the way it ingests all the data logs to provide better insight.

Splunk IT cloud has steep learning curve, and there's not much solid documentation available for add-ons and application.

Splunk IT Cloud is designed for big database or big data management and monitoring. It analyses data structure, logs generated by various tools or processes with proper data as per the organization's requirements. Best tool for analysis and monitoring database.
What do you dislike about the product?
It comes with only 14 days free trial after that it ask for subscriptions or membership. It is difficult to understand for anyone so it require better knowledge about all the fundamentals concepts of Splunk IT Cloud.

It is beneficial for IT organization to manage their all the data by using this cloud platform. It is used for monitoring, analyzing and searching through the data. Also this tool have in built function that generates reports, alert, visualization.

Helps to manage all servers very quickly; with this software, we can save a lot of time getting into servers and then checking it's specifications.

What do you like best about the product?
I like Splunk's ability to take any amount of data. I also like it, because I can create automated alerts and reports based on the records received, which helps me in many things such as generating a great visualization capacity and easier understanding of the data entered in the dashboard.
What do you dislike about the product?
Splunk Cloud is a powerful tool except for one thing that I kind of do in my daily day to process the machine learning models. It should have one more data type to support my processed machine-learning model. Also, it is a web-based application that does not suit me well.

I am an analyst so most of the time I worked with data, so Splunk IT Cloud helps me to work with a large amount of data. It also has a visualization tool where I can analyze all my events and create dashboards to share with stakeholders. Splunk IT Cloud also provides integrations with so many applications and tools such as Jira and Docker, which makes it easy to collaborate across the workforce. Overall, Splunk IT Cloud improves IT operations and work efficiency. Some of the benefits of Splunk IT Cloud are Dashboard creation by making business management more convenient, business controls, and so on.
Great experience with Splunk IT while working on organisation data
What do you like best about the product?
I have used it's real time continues monitoring tool and it's best ever I used. You can customise real time virtualization and dashboards and custom alerts. And even I have used it's metrics data feature to enhance search results.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's really all good but when you are going to create a custom machine learning model it's get crashed and sometime get freeze also. It's important to fix this issue on priority.

As a infra engineer it is helping me to get track of all the events and monitor them. It's custom dashboard really helpful for metrics and event monitoring. It has increased our productivity.

It gives all alerts and information about server activity. Without going to that server, we can get information about it.

What do you like best about the product?
The way it integrate the logs of all the deployed services at one place is really awesome feature and visualization of the metrics derived from the integrated logger system is super cool.
What do you dislike about the product?
It mostly handle all the type of logs of our deoloyed service but when it comes to composite microservice metrics, it doesn't work well as a integrated services, but work well when we talk about single service
