Very Flexible Tool
What do you like best about the product?
I really like the flexibility of the tool. Makes it easy to use and develop.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of resources. It would be nice if there was more resources available.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Budget and Planning
Have been a long term user of TM1
What do you like best about the product?
Speed and flexibility. Integration with Excel.
What do you dislike about the product?
Performance Modeler. The autogenerated code that is inserted into rules is hard to remove and trace. Sandboxes are tough to manage at large scale clients.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Budgeting and Planning applications. Have brought many clients off of spreadsheet hell and into the modern world with real time applications using TM1
Excellent planning solution (and more)
What do you like best about the product?
PA/TM1 is has features which are well-suited to planning applications, in particular, thanks to its best-in-class real-time calculation and modeling engine. It integrates well with other applications and data sources, as well, and is able to handle large numbers of users and quantities of data. It has the best Excel integration of any planning or financial reporting application I've ever worked with. Best of all, it is incredibly flexible: it can do much more than planning and is able to solve a host of other business problems including financial consolidation, allocations, and much more!
What do you dislike about the product?
The modeling and ETL scripting languages are proprietary and, while powerful, can be challenging and may have a steep learning curve for some users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Planning/budgeting/forecasting, financial reporting, consolidation, allocations, and many other types of financial models.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ask for a proof of concept with your data. Most other competitors will resist anything other than canned demos.
PA for Finance and Operations
What do you like best about the product?
My favorite feature of PA is that you can keep the best features of excel and harness a powerful database to eliminate all the things that are difficult about excel (data integrity, data consolidation and lengthy planning and reporting cycles). I also like that the product is a blank slate and is 100% customized to your business needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since PA is a blank slate, if not implemented by an experienced professional who understands the architecture (not all partners are equal) it can become a mess. Be sure to vet your partner and make sure they have the level of experience required
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Financial planning, reporting and consolidation. Forecasting and budgeting. Financial consolidations and eliminations. Operational reporting. Business modeling.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Choose PA! I would recommend PA to anyone. It can be used in many areas of your business not just financial planning so has a greater ROI.
IBM Planning Analytics for Excel is the killer app for finance and accounting users
What do you like best about the product?
IBM Planning Analytics for Excel is the killer app for finance and accounting users. I say this because finance and accounting professionals love Excel and hate any initiative to pull them out of Excel, no matter how benevolent the cause is and how helpful it is to the broader enterprise. WIth a successful PAX implementation, finance and accounting can remain 100% in Excel and the organization still unlocks insights from their contribution quickly and easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am not aware of a way to have multiple "custom views" on a single spreadsheet with dimensions being sync'd, as is available in PAW. The addition of this would function would make it incredibly powerful. Also, I am not aware of a way to "rebuild" custom sheets (for new elements) without needing to use VBA in conjunction with MDX queries.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are in evaluation mode, ready to pilot. Our organization does EVERYTHING in Excel - we want a way to capture all of the data that lives in Excel to revolutionize our analytics, deliverables, and decision-support.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Really understand the business requirements first to ensure it is the right fit.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Budgeting, planning, forecasting.
Functionality and performance do not disappoint!
What do you like best about the product?
The new integration with excel via Planning Analytics for Excel and increased performance when loading large sets of data has been instrumental in our planning and forecasting processes and analysis. The visualizations provided by PAW have greatly enhanced our user experience as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The subset editor is a little clunky at first to get used to.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
