We are excited to announce that AWS CloudFormation now supports AWS IAM Temporary Security Credentials and Federated Users.

IAM Temporary Security Credentials are security credentials that are valid for a specified duration and for a specific set of permissions. They can be requested for IAM users, or for federated users that you manage in your own corporate directory, such as Microsoft Active Directory.

The introduction of this feature means that users with credentials in your own corporate directory can now access AWS CloudFormation resources without you having to create and manage multiple AWS IAM users, or separate AWS accounts. In addition, Amazon EC2 instances using IAM roles can now access the AWS CloudFormation service, without you having to copy AWS access keys onto each instance.

We also have a large collection of sample templates that makes it easy to get started with CloudFormation within minutes.
