Amazon Simple Notification Service Now Sends Notifications for AWS Directory Service

Posted on: Mar 2, 2016

Now you can use Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) to receive notifications such as emails and text messages when the status of your AWS Directory Service directory changes to or from an “Active” state. Amazon SNS uses topics to collect and distribute messages to subscribers. When AWS Directory Service detects a change in your directory’s status, it will publish a message to the associated topic, which is then sent to topic subscribers.

Amazon SNS is a web service that makes it easy to set up, operate, and send notifications from the cloud. It provides you with a highly scalable, flexible, and cost-effective means to publish messages from an application and immediately deliver them to subscribers or other applications. SNS follows the publish-subscribe (pub-sub) messaging paradigm, with notifications being delivered to clients using a push mechanism that eliminates the need to periodically check or “poll” for new information and updates.

AWS Directory Service makes it easy to set up and run Microsoft Active Directory (AD) in the AWS Cloud, or connect your AWS resources with an existing on-premises Microsoft Active Directory. After your directory is created, you can use it to manage users and groups, provide single sign-on to applications and services, create and apply group policy, domain join Amazon EC2 instances, as well as simplify the deployment and management of cloud-based Linux and Microsoft Windows workloads.

See the Amazon SNS website or the AWS Directory Service website to learn more. If you are ready to get started with topics and notifications, see the AWS Directory Service documentation.
