Posted on: Jun 5, 2017

You can now use new versions of Apache Spark (2.1.1), Apache HBase (1.3.1), Apache Flink (1.2.1), and Apache Mahout (0.13.0) on Amazon EMR release 5.6.0. Each of these updated versions contains bug fixes and minor improvements. Also, Mahout 0.13.0 now supports Spark 2.x. Additionally, you can now enable in-transit data encryption using SSL/TLS for Presto when using an Amazon EMR security configuration.

You can create an Amazon EMR cluster with release 5.6.0 by choosing release label “emr-5.6.0” from the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, or SDK. You can select Spark, HBase, Flink, and Mahout to install these applications on your cluster. To enable Presto in-flight encryption, specify a security configuration with in-flight encryption enabled when creating your cluster. Please visit the Amazon EMR documentation for more information about release 5.6.0, Spark 2.1.1, HBase 1.3.1, Flink 1.2.1, Mahout 0.13.0, and in-transit encryption in Amazon EMR.

Amazon EMR release 5.6.0 is available in all supported regions for Amazon EMR.
