AWS Directory Service for Microsoft Active Directory (Standard Edition), also known as AWS Microsoft AD (Standard Edition), is a managed Microsoft Active Directory (AD) that is optimized for small and midsize businesses (SMBs). Now, customers running typical SMB workloads can use AWS Microsoft AD (Standard Edition) to create a cost-effective, highly available, and managed Microsoft AD in the AWS Cloud.

You can use AWS Microsoft AD (Standard Edition) to join Amazon EC2 instances to your managed domain easily. It can provide single sign-on (SSO) access to AD-aware applications and services in the AWS Cloud. When used with Active Directory Federation Services
(AD FS), it also can provide SSO access to cloud applications, such as Microsoft Office 365. In addition, AWS Microsoft AD (Standard Edition) enables you to access your AD-aware applications and services using your on-premises AD credentials, by creating a trust between your directory in the AWS Cloud and your on-premises AD.

Currently, AWS Microsoft AD (Standard Edition) is available in the US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), EU (Frankfurt), EU (Ireland), EU (London), and South America (São Paulo) Regions.
