AWS Launches Amazon DynamoDB Backup and Restore

Posted on: Nov 29, 2017

On-Demand Backup allows you to create full backups of your DynamoDB tables data for data archival, helping you meet your corporate and governmental regulatory requirements. You can backup tables from a few megabytes to hundreds of terabytes of data, with no impact on performance and availability to your production applications.

On-Demand Backup processes back up requests in seconds regardless of the size of your tables, so you don’t have to worry about backup schedules or long-running processes. All backups are automatically encrypted, cataloged, easily discoverable, and retained until you explicitly delete them. You can execute backup and restore operations with a single-click in the AWS Management Console or a single API call.

On-Demand Backup is being rolled out to US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), EU (Ireland) regions starting today, and will be completed for all tables in the coming weeks. In early 2018, you will be able to opt-in to DynamoDB Point-in-Time Restore (PITR) which will allow you to restore your data up to the minute for the past 35 days, further protecting your data from loss due to application errors.
