Amazon Inspector Adds the Ability to Schedule Recurring Assessment Runs and Install the Agent from the Console

Posted on: Apr 30, 2018

With this update, you can now schedule recurring security assessments through the Amazon Inspector console. You can also now install the Inspector Agent directly from the Inspector console using the Systems Manager Run Command.

To schedule a recurring security assessment, go to the Amazon Inspector console and expand the assessment template you want to schedule on the Assessment Templates page. In the ‘Assessment Events’ section, select your desired frequency and click the ‘Add Schedule’ button. Inspector will then set up a schedule event rule in CloudWatch Events for you. The option to add a recurring schedule is also available while creating new assessment templates. You can still manually set up a more advanced schedule for assessment runs in the CloudWatch Events console by creating a cron expression for the schedule and inputting the assessment template ARN.

To install the Inspector Agent directly from the Inspector console, expand an assessment target on the Assessment targets page and choose the ‘Install Agents with Run Command’ option. Inspector will then use the AmazonInspector-ManageAWSAgent Document in Systems Manager Run Command to install the agent on any instances in your target that have the Systems Manager agent installed and an IAM role that allows Run Command. The option to install the agent is also available while creating new assessment targets. You can still install the agent manually if you don’t use Systems Manager, or you can use the Run Command console to manage deployment to your fleet.

Amazon Inspector is available in the following ten regions: US East (Northern Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Northern California), US West (Oregon), EU (Frankfurt), EU (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Sydney), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo).
