Posted on: May 15, 2018

Today we are announcing the availability of License Included (LI) Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) for Windows Server version 1709 and 1803 for Amazon EC2, providing customers with an easy and flexible way to get up and running with the latest versions of Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel release. These versions of Windows Server include new enhancements such as smaller disk footprint, Kubernetes support, and Windows subsystem for Linux (WSL), and are best suited for use cases including building modern container and micro-services based Windows applications.

By running Windows Server versions 1709 and 1803 on Amazon EC2, customers can combine the scale, performance, and elasticity of AWS with the new capabilities in the Semi-Annual Channel release versions of Windows Server.

Windows Server 1709 and 1803 License Included (LI) AMIs are available in all public AWS regions, and can be launched directly from the Amazon EC2 console. The AMIs are available in two versions – a container version with all the relevant container features installed by default, and a base version with the default configuration. Instances running Windows Server 1709 and 1803 AMIs are billed under the standard Windows pricing.
