Following the announcement of updates to the PostgreSQL database, we have updated Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL in GovCloud (US) to support PostgreSQL major version 12 and minor versions 11.7, 10.12, 9.6.17, and 9.5.21. This release contains bug fixes and improvements done by the PostgreSQL community.

PostgreSQL 12 includes improved functionality and performance. Version 12 also includes management of indexing, improved partitioning capabilities, JSON path queries per SQL/JSON specifications, nondeterministic collations which support case-insensitive and accent-insensitive comparisons for ICU provided collations, most common-value statistics for improved query plans, creation of generated columns that computes values with an expression, and many additional features.

The PostgreSQL 12 release updates extensions including PostGIS to version 3.0, PGAudit to version 1.4, wal2json to version 2.1, PLV8 to version 2.3.14, Orafce to version 3.8, pg_repack to version 1.4.5, pg_hint_plan to version 1.3.5.22a77c, and pglogical to version 2.3.0. For minor versions 11.7, 10.12, 9.6.17, and 9.5.21, this release updates the orafce extension to version 3.8 and the wal2json extension to version 2.1.
