Amazon DocumentDB (with MongoDB compatibility) now supports T3 medium instances

Posted on: Jun 30, 2020

Amazon DocumentDB (with MongoDB compatibility) is a fast, scalable, highly available, and fully managed document database service that supports MongoDB workloads. Amazon DocumentDB makes it easy and intuitive to store, query, and index JSON data.

Amazon DocumentDB now supports t3.medium instances, which are 72% cheaper than r5.large instances. Using t3.medium instances with Amazon DocumentDB is a cost-effective option for dev/test, QA, and small production workloads.

Amazon DocumentDB t3.medium instances are configured for Unlimited mode and can sustain high CPU performance for any period of time required. The hourly instance price automatically covers all CPU usage spikes if the average CPU utilization of the instance is at or below the baseline over a rolling 24-hour period or the instance lifetime, whichever is shorter. For the vast majority of general-purpose workloads, instances configured as unlimited provide ample performance without any additional charges. If the instance runs at higher CPU utilization for a prolonged period, it can do so for a flat additional rate per vCPU-hour. For more information, see unlimited mode for burstable performance instances, Amazon DocumentDB pricing page, and optimizing for cost with Amazon DocumentDB.

You can easily create a new T3 instance, or modify your existing Amazon DocumentDB clusters to scale to T3 instances in the Amazon DocumentDB Management Console. Please refer to the Amazon DocumentDB documentation for more information.
