Amazon S3 on Outposts now supports additional S3 Lifecycle rules to optimize capacity management. You can now optimize your storage capacity by expiring objects as they age or are replaced with newer versions. You can use S3 Lifecycle configurations for a whole bucket on your Outpost, or for a subset of the objects in the bucket by filtering by prefixes, object tags, or object sizes.

Prior to this release, you could use Lifecycle rules to initiate object deletion based on age or date. Now, you have additional fine-grained controls to expire current versions of objects and permanently delete non-current versions of objects. This allows you to more easily optimize your S3 on Outposts storage capacity.

Amazon S3 on Outposts delivers object storage to your on-premises AWS Outposts rack environment to help you meet your low latency, local data processing, and data residency needs. Using the S3 APIs and features, S3 on Outposts makes it easier to store, secure, tag, retrieve, report on, and control access to the data on your Outposts. Outposts rack, as part of the AWS Outposts Family, is a fully managed service that extends AWS infrastructure, services, and tools to virtually any data center, co-location space, or on-premises facility for a truly consistent hybrid experience.

Lifecycle rules are available at no additional cost in all AWS Regions where AWS Outposts rack is available. To get started or learn more, visit the S3 on Outposts page, or read our documentation.
