Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) now supports M6id and R6id database (DB) instances for RDS for PostgresSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB. Amazon RDS M6id and R6id DB instances provide up to a 24% performance improvement and up to a 13% price/performance improvement (based on on-demand pricing) over Amazon RDS M5d and R5d DB instances for open-source databases depending on database engine, version, and workload. These instances support local block storage with up to 7.6 TB of NVMe-based solid state disk (SSD) storage.
Amazon RDS provides support for Optimized Reads and Optimized Writes (on RDS for MySQL and MariaDB) on M6id and R6id DB instances. RDS open-source engines with Optimized Reads execute complex queries up to 2x faster than Amazon RDS open-source without Optimized Reads. With Optimized Writes you can improve RDS MySQL and RDS MariaDB write throughput by up to 2x.
M6id and R6id DB instances are available on Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL version 15.2 and higher, 14.5 and higher, 13.7 and higher; Amazon RDS for MySQL version 8.0.28 and higher; and Amazon RDS for MariaDB version 10.6.10 and higher, 10.5.16 and higher, and 10.4.25 and higher. Amazon RDS M6id and R6id DB instances are now available in the following AWS Regions: US East (Ohio, N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), and Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, Sydney, Tokyo).
