Amazon WorkSpaces Multi-Region Resilience adds cross-region one-way data replication to standby WorkSpaces to help provide improved business continuity for your WorkSpaces users. You can enable data replication for your standby WorkSpaces, and root and user volume data will automatically replicate from your primary WorkSpaces to your standby WorkSpaces.
In 2022, we launched the Amazon WorkSpaces Multi-Region Resilience standby configuration, which helps streamline the standby WorkSpaces deployment and facilitates redirecting users to standby WorkSpaces in the secondary region if the primary region is unavailable due to disruptions. Today, we are enhancing this feature by adding one-way cross-region data replication. With this feature, applications, documents, and other resources stored on the primary WorkSpaces are snapshotted every 12 hours and copied to the region hosting the secondary Workspace. This provides an additional layer of redundancy, enhanced data protection, and can minimize productivity loss that would otherwise occur during a disruption.
One-way data replication is an add-on feature of Amazon Multi-Region Resilience and is available in the AWS regions where Multi-Region Resilience is available, including US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Europe (Frankfurt), and Europe (Ireland). It supports both Windows and BYOL (Bring Your Own License) WorkSpaces.
