Amazon Data Firehose now supports specifying a file extension for objects delivered to S3 destinations.

Customers use Amazon Data Firehose to deliver data streams to Amazon S3 data lakes, data warehouses, and analytics services. With this feature, customers can specify a file extension when their Firehose data stream is written to Amazon S3 objects. For example, when delivering data streams in compressed GZIP format, customers can set up their Firehose stream to append a .gzip file extension to objects created in Amazon S3, so that applications that use AWS analytics services such as Amazon Athena and Amazon EMR to process their data in Amazon S3 can automatically infer the data format based on the file extension.

This feature is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose is available. To learn more, see the Amazon Data Firehose Developer Guide.
