Moving sensitive US government data to the cloud requires the meticulous application of a proven migration methodology, skilled resources, a robust solution, and a mature logistics model. A US government agency elected to move its Security and Information Event Management (SIEM) system from a virtualized, on-premise environment to the AWS Cloud. AWS Partner Booz Allen performed the migration and used the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) and AWS Snow Family of devices as mechanisms to help the customer save time, reduce costs, and increase their agility to develop new features for their constituents.

My favorite part of re:Invent, this year and every year, is the opportunity it provides to hear directly from AWS Partners and customers. As always, I’m impressed by the value that partners are delivering for customers, and I’m encouraged at the opportunities ahead of us to continue innovating, simplifying, and delivering results. For any partners who weren’t able to attend on-site, I want to share what the worldwide public sector partners team is working on to better serve partners. Here are a few announcements you may have missed.

Today, AWS announced Continuity of Government IT on AWS (CGIT), a comprehensive cloud-based solution guide that enables governments to protect their digital assets and services during disruptions of any kind. Governments can use CGIT to retain the integrity of critical datasets, back up applications, and transfer services to run in the cloud, reducing the risk of compromise and enabling continuity of government.

AWS announced the startups chosen to participate in the AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator for Infrastructure. These startups are developing groundbreaking solutions to help cities address infrastructure-related sustainability challenges. Infrastructure, or the built environment, encompasses all aspects of our lives, and includes real estate, manufacturing, power, utility, and transportation systems. The nine startups in the cohort originate from four countries across North America, Latin America, and Europe, and represent a wide range of innovative sustainable solutions.

AWS re:Invent returns to Las Vegas, Nevada for 2022, from November 28 through December 2. The annual event helps customers and partners reimagine what’s possible by learning what’s new with AWS, growing their knowledge, and getting inspired by the global cloud community. How can public sector attendees prepare for re:Invent and make the most of their experience?

This year, the Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) World Congress brought together more than 6,000 industry professionals from 64 countries to discuss ways to advance the deployment of intelligent transportation technologies to save lives, improve mobility, promote sustainability, and increase access to communities across the globe. For the event, ITS organized a Global Innovation Competition sponsored by AWS to encourage the development of innovative solutions that address priority themes using cloud technology. At AWS, our customers and partners serving government, nonprofit, healthcare, and education are focusing on advancing the way they deliver critical services, improve the customer experience, build resilience into how they operate, and respond to disruptive events. With much progress made to date and with customers expecting the same digital experience and service as in other industries, expectations are only getting higher. An Aadhaar number is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to every individual in India. Considering the sensitivity of the Aadhaar number and the potential implication of having one’s Aadhaar number compromised, UIDAI mandated the need for all Aadhaar and Aadhaar-related data to be encrypted and stored separately in a secure, access-controlled data repository known as an Aadhaar Data Vault. This blog post explains how government and private entities that collect, process, and store Aadhaar data for various use cases can use AWS CloudHSM from AWS to create an Aadhaar data storage solution that can meet guidelines provided by UIDAI.
