I have used Sophos XG firewalls, APs, and REDs for 5 years
What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease of setup and ease of use that comes with Sophos XG Firewalls. From setting up business rules, Access Points, and Remote Ethernet Devices they all offer an ease of use that is unmatched by a competitor.
Also I love the Phishing emails. I have the ability to schedule Mock attacks on email users. If they click the link the email sends them to training. If not, they have the option to forward it. I make a contest out of this every month of users. I also like that Sophos seems to be transparent when things are awry.
Setting up new networks and Access Points are a breeze! Also Remote Ethernet Devices enable our multi-site facility to communicate with security and speed. I was able to get a new site up and running in not time last month with a new RED15.
I also have the ability to run many reports for our senior management. Reports that enable them to see what I do and break it down for them to understand how important the firewall is to our organization. This enables me to better serve our organization.

What do you dislike about the product?
There are some items on my wish list for the XG firewalls.
I would like the ability to reboot an AP that is having issues. Also to reboot Remote Ethernet Devices if needed.
Some other issues are training or learning new things about the firewall. Some of the training is behind paywalls the last time I looked. I would love for there to be more training for us.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since COVID hit we needed the ability to work from home. Sophos XG Firewall offers a SSL VPN with our subscription. I was able to set that up to enable users to work remotely. They were able to get to the data they needed and most importantly the data was secure!
I also have the ability to block websites and apps as I see fit. Or i can block categories.
I setup a network at a new site in a matter of moments with the XG firewall and a Remote Ethernet Device. This was a simple setup and give me the ability to push all traffic through our main site with the REDs. We also have the ability to monitor traffic at remote sites.

Setup is a breeze. The rules are easy to setup for the firewall and setting up exteranl sites and users are easy to setup as well.

What do you like best about the product?
The layout and ease of navigation is very good.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some policies and features that need to be addressed on the command line especially for VOIP phones to work. The clustering can be a bit of a pain and you don't really know what's going on from the onscreen messages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was trying to increase my customers security posture by having point solutions that talk to each other.

Great for small to medium organisation with comprehensive security features but has the capabilities for large enterprises

The delay to make adjusts by support team after we open a difficult problem.

It has a very intuitive and improved interface compared to Sophos UTM.
What do you dislike about the product?
It should improve support for more users with less resource consumption.

The creation of rules for web browsing filtering with the ability to synchronize with the active directory has been a good point.

What do you like best about the product?
Solid, reliable units. Have half a dozen in the field now with zero reliability issues. Our clients are very satisfied with the VPN throughput (impressive since several are architectural firms that work in large file sizes). The RED (remote Ethernet device) units are excellent add-ons, simple to configure with solid performance and reliability as well for our clients with remote offices. Support is excellent as well. Wireless access points are all centrally managed through the XG for easy deployment as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
A bit confusing to configure at first - example is having to set up separate source and destination NAT rather than a simple static mapping. Some configurations require accessing multiple different sections rather than being consolidated in one area. License subscriptions are a bit confusing as well for additional features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Network security and remote access. Quick to set up remote users for VPN access, remote office connectivity is flawless with the RED units. Wireless access can be controlled from the XG making diagnosing issues simple.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are converting from a different vendor use their support team to assist in configuration. Syntax can be very different and confusing at first but the support is excellent.

Email Filtering, More should be done on the firewall to detect malicious emails.

Simple setup and good admin user interface for the competent professional. Lots of features and choice of licensing to enable only what you need and pay for it. Comprehensive real time reports. Excellent backup and firmware update capabilities

Complex licensing as you have to know what each option is to ensure you buy the right license to cover all your needs.
Outrageous pricing with the same digital license for the same feature enablement costing massively different prices in different territories and Sophos preventing vendors selling out of territory thus forcing you to pay more just because of the county you live in. THIS IS NOT because of currency exchange rates, the pricing is vastly different.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Simply doing its job to replace the previous Microsoft Threat Management Gateway (TMG) servers we had. Of course now we are also paying yearly for licensing which has added costs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a good solid performer. Once in and setup there is very little to do, exceopt sit back and feel safe.

One of the best budget oriented firewall
What do you like best about the product?
We have been using sophos xg 85 firewall in our company for a while and its performance has been quite satisfactorily, if your are looking for a budget oriented firewall then this one is worth buying...or you can go for the high end xg series which include xg-105 and xg-135, the initial configuration part of the firewall was quite simple and similar to other firewalls in the market. it comes with 2 inbuilt anteenas which was an exciting feature so an additional wifi device is not required, the user interface or the dashboard of the firewall is simple and user friendly its shows recent malicious activities upfront. the sophos sandtorm feature detects ransomware quite brilliantly which is adds perks to the device and all in all a good product to consider for budget contrain customers
What do you dislike about the product?
The processing time it took while initial configuration was quite frustrating and as its a budget oriented firewall you don't get many features which is quite expected.We could have gone for a bit high end device considering the scaliblity of no. of users
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
the product has improved business process quite handsomely, we were facing many issue due to spam messages and mails and are quite happy and have got rid of those messages

if you are looking for a budget oriented firewall with good and exiting features then this product it worth buying.
