A very convenient OS for developpers

  • October 11, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As a developer i've switched to ubuntu 2 years ago and since then i never got back to any other OS, because ubuntu helps you to install any development environment with simple command lines, and with a whole community behind to help you in case of installation errors.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing i dislike about ubuntu, what will be preferable is supporting more games
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use ubuntu for python development, and recently blockchain simulation. What i've managed to solve using ubuntu is running a docker simulation which is not 100% supported by windows.

Easiest to use Linux Operations System

  • October 10, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
If you need a Linux operating system that is easy to use and requires very little user training over Windows, Ubuntu is the distribution to go with. Ubuntu has made it easy to switch from Windows to Linux.
What do you dislike about the product?
Ubuntu has tried to abstract too much away from the user. While it is great that they have made things easy to use, i wish they would allow more granular configuration through CLI vs making it more difficult to do in their GUI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Installing and running programs / scripts that require linux and cannot run on Windows. It has allowed us to efficiently run these programs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend this platform over Centos, Redhat, Oracle Linux Etc for end users. It is much easier to use.

    Information Technology and Services

It is an excellent operating system.

  • October 09, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is very easy to work in this system. Without as many restrictions as in Windows. Many other development technologies are designed to work better in Ubuntu.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is difficult to find a computer that comes with that operating system from the factory.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Software development jobs. Creation of applications or programs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn to use the command line, many things are easier to do from the command line and if you don't use it, you can make things more complicated for yourself.

Best OS for developers

  • October 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Free and open source operating system with powerful system built on Linux is what Ubuntu is all about. It is so easy to use even when you are switching from Windows. There are no long running unnecessary jobs running in backend, less chance of getting attacked by a malware and free to use license is why I switched from Windows to Ubuntu.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes there is this annoying message when I boot up which says, "System program problem detected" which doesn't provide any troubleshooting or any way to fix the problem.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu is my go to Operating System for both work and home PC. Its simplicity and nice UI and fast extfs file system makes it a great OS for a developer. Since a lot of IDE uses many small files to perform tasks such as compiling, debugging, extfs does the job faster than ntfs file system which significantly improves speed of development.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Once you use Ubuntu you don't go back to Windows. It's simplicity is what makes it best.

    Computer Software

Best bug free OS

  • October 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The OS has, in my personal professional experience, never crashed. Everything is available from the terminal. All you need is to learn to type in a few commands and you are good to go. Ubuntu is also thoroughly customizable. You can customize it to be whatever you want it to look like.
What do you dislike about the product?
After getting used to the UI features of Windows, it is hard, in the initial stages to switch to Ubuntu. Once the switch is made, it is hard to go back. However, it will discourage new users to switch from Windows to Ubuntu. My colleagues had to get semi-professional training before they started moving into the actual code at work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used Ubuntu to develop all our applications. The process was very easy with a few commands like "touch", "awk", "sed" etc., we were able to accomplish pretty much whatever we wanted without having to move around the screen with a mouse.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn a few commands, they will come in very handy. It may seem hard at first, but once you are used to it, it will be very hard to let go.

Easiest distribution to start using Linux

  • October 07, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
If you want to have a free and strong operation system, Ubuntu is a great starting point. This distribution is so easy reachable and if you want, it can be used as portable and you like, it can be installed very easily. It has a lot of application in its marketplace.
Another good point, there is long term support, even if you have 3-year-old installation, there is still support option for especially security vulnerabilities.
As I mentioned above, there is a great marketplace, from your desktop, you can find a lot of great tools like open office etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Actually finding disliked point is really hard. It is best alternative for Windows and other distributions. One point may be mentioned as disliked point, changing location of close, minimize buttons of windows are not easy. Lack of some pre-defined codex for media is another missing point.
Also for integrations with another system, you need to download some programs like samba etc. This can be pre-defined.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have some computers and windows is so expensive and heavy. As server and desktop needs, I use Ubuntu. Ubuntu covers my all operating system needs.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are used to use Windows or MacOS, you can get used to use this very easily. It is not like old days.

The Best operating system for development

  • October 04, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The amount of freedom for a developer i.e. best functionality in an operating system with the ease of use.
What do you dislike about the product?
The lack of daily apps like video players or other standalone apps which are not related to development.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu has made python and C++ development really easy. We are able to focus more on challenging tasks rather than solving OS related issues.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Wonderful operating system if you wish to do some hardcore development.

Ubuntu! The Best Linux Development Platform

  • October 03, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Its the most user friendly Operating System that I have used so far.
I have used other linux flavors like Mint, Fedora, openSUSE, etc, but Ubuntu was the one with which I stick to it till last.
It is not just good for personal usage but for actual Embedded Development.
It has the best Support Community which you can find far better than any other Linux flavors, which is very much required for development.
Most of Development tools are easily available for Ubuntu as they are for Windows.
Software installation and dependency resolution software like Synaptic is a charm especially for Linux.
Easy interface and customization is best.
Best updates and LTS updates from Canonical.
Best to use as an embedded platform, as much support is available.
Its Open Source :)
What do you dislike about the product?
Well its Open Source, so actually should not have any complains..
But yes, with various versions of Ubuntu, have faced bluetooth compatibility issues, stability issues and sometime crashes.
Unity interface is still not best and have some serious stability related issues. Always miss GNOME.
Compatibility of programs which works fine in Ubuntu, sometime doesn't work in other platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Well for most of the embedded development, I prefer Ubuntu. Our whole development environment is on Ubuntu. We have Windows in place too, but when its development, its always Linux and in that Mostly Ubuntu.
It provides the clean tools and support for embedded softwares.
Its close to the environment, where the application will gets deployed, so that you can identify issues in advance.
Robustness which comes handy with it.
You can zip your whole workspace and share with your team to work upon, even in different geographical locations. Which is Great.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Its the best operating system for personal use as well as for development (best for embedded)
It has a user friendly interface and a big community to support for issues.
