Loved it.

What do you like best about the product?
Makes feature rollouts seamless. Ability to segment users for A/B testing and gradual rollouts greatly reduces deployment risk.
What do you dislike about the product?
Price is a bit steep for smaller teams, UI could me more intuitive for users unfamiliar with feature management tools, making the initial setup somewhat challenging.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Prevents major disruptions by enabling rapid rollbacks if issues arise, without redeploying code. For users, it provides the benefit of safer releases, faster iteration cycles, and better user experience through controlled rollouts and A/B testing. This means that teams can continuously deliver improvements with less risk, enhancing both development agility and product quality.

Review of LaunchDarkly from An Security Engineer's Perspective

  • September 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how LaunchDarkly streamlines feature flag management, allowing for real-time feature toggling without redeployment. Intuitive interface of LD makes it easy to implement A/B testing, phased rollouts, and user-targeted feature releases.
What do you dislike about the product?
LD offers excellent feature management, it can become costly as usage scales, especially for larger teams. Additionally, the learning curve for setting up complex flags and understanding its full capabilities can be not so easy for newcomers. Some integrations may require more customization than anticipated, which can slower initial adoption.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
For me, as a security enginer, the ability to control feature access, conduct phased rollouts, and quickly roll back changes reduces downtime are few major wins

LaunchDarkly: Good Feature Flagging Solution

  • September 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to easily manage and control feature flags across different environments is its standout feature. It empowers teams to release features gradually, roll back changes safely, and experiment without redeploying code, which greatly enhances the deployment process.
What do you dislike about the product?
the learning curve for advanced use cases, such as multi-environment or complex segmentation, can be steep for newcomers. While the documentation is helpful, more in-depth tutorials and real-world examples would be a welcome addition to ease onboarding.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
LaunchDarkly solves the challenge of managing feature releases and running A/B tests without the need for complex deployment cycles. It allows us to deploy new features behind feature flags and release them gradually to specific user segments, reducing the risk of bugs or negative impacts on the entire user base

Used

What do you like best about the product?
LaunchDarkly allows real-time flag updates without delays, ensuring a smooth and instant response to feature toggles. This platform is fast, reliable, secure, and easy to implement, with an integrated approval mechanism. We found the integration process straightforward, using just a client ID and SDK key, making it incredibly easy to code and set up. Previously, I used a database for flagging, which was slower, and flag changes took time to reflect. Additionally, database connection issues impacted the flag calls. However, these issues were completely avoided once we started using LaunchDarkly.

I change the flags at least 3 to 4 times a day for various testing and development activities, and the process remains consistently smooth. The platform’s seamless integration into our systems has enhanced our workflow. Additionally, the customer support has been responsive and helpful, addressing any issues promptly, which further improves the experience.
What do you dislike about the product?
While LaunchDarkly has greatly improved our feature management, one area for improvement would be adding a dedicated Performance Environment in the portal. Currently, we use the UAT environment for performance testing, which is not ideal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Real-Time Feature Toggles: Instant flag updates improve responsiveness during testing and deployment.
Improved Reliability: Eliminates issues from database-dependent flagging, increasing system stability.
Ease of Implementation: Simple integration with a client ID and SDK key.
Increased Control: Enables targeted rollouts and risk mitigation for feature releases.
Efficient Workflow: Smoothly change flags 3 to 4 times daily for testing and development.

Enabling/Disabling feature on production environment without client release is no less than magic.

  • September 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Enabling/Disabling feature on production environment without client release easily. And how easy it is enable/disable the flags, change it's variations, affecting users almost instantly. We can also merge half built feature in release by surrounding it around feature flag. Then enable that flag once whole feature is developed. This is really helpful when developing large features span across multiple releases.
What do you dislike about the product?
New UI redesign is confusing. I prefere old ui where, variation, targetting all are visible on opening.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping features behind flag, like we enable some feature for some set of platforms and disable same feature for some set of platforms. We can enable flag on the basis of app version so it won't affect earlier version where feature was not shipped.
