Pretty easy to set up
What do you like best about the product?
LauchDarkly is pretty simple and has just enough features to be useful without getting overwhelming. I was able to get it working within 2 hours in a fairly complex web app.
What do you dislike about the product?
I found the custom attributes to be the most powerful feature and could really be used to replace other features, making it and even simpler tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It puts less pressure on our team to get things passed at the deadline. If one feature has not be tested to our satisfaction, we can disable it and not hold up the entire release.

LaunchDarkly has tremendously cut down on prod patches!
What do you like best about the product?
LaunchDarkly has great up time! They also have first class Terraform support.
What do you dislike about the product?
The raw API clients for manually manipulating flags are a bit rough (just generated with Open API). But most companies wouldn't need to use them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Now that we are using LaunchDarkly, we don't need to patch prod as often. Any larger change gets a feature flag, so we can roll it out safely.

The product is so simple to use. It removes any need for feature branches and the overhead that comes with them. We have trained our product team to use the tool and they now decide when software is released.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to see an easier way to propagate targeting across environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving several problems with LaunchDarkly. We are enabling features based on roles and permissions of our users. Grouping users into specific segments. A/B testing and controlling production availability of features.
Easy for customer-facing teams to manage
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to find flags and quickly enable or disable for our customers. We also leverage a Slack integration so that we can monitor changes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be cool to see a little easier way of which "customers" have which flag.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to do staged or slow rollouts of features, control the experience for various customer types, and of course use it for testing to duplicate the same experience we can later use for our customer environments.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Encourage communication between eng and customer-facing teams to make sure the naming conventions of the flags are consistent. Make descriptive notes or mention tickets that best describe the feature behind the flag.

Launch Darkly is great for testing data intensive applications
What do you like best about the product?
LaunchDarkly really simplifies testing new features against production workloads. With LaunchDarkly's feature flags I can feel confident that a feature can be tested against one, or a few, clients then rolled back instantly with one click if there is an issue.
What do you dislike about the product?
Feature flags require developer buy-in to really aid your test and deployment process, though once they are used to using them it becomes a standard part of their development toolkit. Though recently they've made great strides improving tooling in LaunchDarkly, it's still currently a little bit hard to select a flag you would like to track for debugging purposes ahead of time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to test against production workloads is critical for rapid feature development in data intensive applications. When developers put new features behind feature flags, it is often possible to test these features production and deploy to users safe in the knowledge that you can revert back to the previous code with one click. Feature flags also let you roll out changes that might challenge the performance of your platform incrementally, allowing you to react to performance issues before they are noticed by customers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you get buy-in across your development and infrastructure teams. And be sure to combine LaunchDarkly with other practices that increase velocity in the development and deployment lifecycle, you will really get the best use out of the product if you are deploying at least every other week. The LaunchDarkly website and blog have lots of suggestions for best practice that will help you make the most of LaunchDarkly.

I haven't seen any downside till now. If any I would say user experience can be improved.

I would like to suggest launchdarkly to others who has same requirements.
Enable decoupling code deployment from feature release to better control the pace of releases.

I like the decoupling of code deployment from release to allow us to deploy code as fast as we possibly can and control the pace of releases.
I like its high performant and high scalable solution based on streaming architecture to allow the flag evaluation taking place locally without connecting to LaunchDarkly server.
I also like its clean and intuitive UX for us to easily manage the feature flag lifecycle.

I would like to see more insight reports and flag archive automation.

It enables our engineering teams to go as fast as they possibly can, at the same time, it allows the release team to control the pace of releases, giving customers time to adapt.
Reliable feature gating with advanced targeting to enable seamless launches
What do you like best about the product?
LaunchDarkly is very easy to use. We rely on it heavily! As a PM, I am able to manage the targeting of new features with just a few clicks. It allows our organization to have full control, de-risk and be strategic in how we roll out new functionality. We can also easily see what flags are active and easily manage flags.
What do you dislike about the product?
I really enjoy using LaunchDarkly... a few things that could be improved:
- Better direction in the app of what a control does (sometimes it's not completely clear what a specific button controls)
- Better pricing for smaller teams (we'd have more of the engineering team on the platform, but it's a little pricey)

- Getting features into product faster by putting them behind feature flags (we can release and then gate on our staging instance and internal instances)
- Enabling early release and beta processes with customers (can run very smooth early release programs for customers and adjust quickly)
- Enabling product to manage the rollout of features (this saves the organization a ton of time, Product does not have to rely on engineering to manage feature gates)

It's great! I'd highly recommend it. Putting a process in place and a RACI for who manages what in the platform is key.
