Great Open Source Slack Alternative
What do you like best about the product?
RocketChat was super easy to migrate over to for a team of over 100 avid slack users. Everything was right where we left off, and the features work great.
What do you dislike about the product?
The mobile apps could use some work and some users complain about missing notifications.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Slack file storage limits were a huge problem for us, so when we can host our own, those are a non-issue. Also being able to audit messages (although not through the UI) was a must for us.

Great tool and pricing, UX could be better

It has custom OAuth and branding support, plus pricing is not seat based
What do you dislike about the product?
UI is hard to use, especially settings, the design could be much better
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it for internal communication with a large group of trainers and the pricing model supports is well
Excellent program which keep getting better
What do you like best about the product?
Rocket.Chat is getting updated rather frequently with fixes and new features rolling in. The development team is responsive when submitting a bug report.
What do you dislike about the product?
Rocket.Chat still has some bugs that are yet to be addressed.
The development team seems capable and rather friendly, but since this is still work in progress they might get overwhelmed at times.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it shows when someone is available in real time and also how it notifies you when you have old unread messages.

My biggest issue has been gettting my passwoed reset
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The greatest benefit is communicating with co workers who are in other locations very promptly.
Good tool, highly configurable, but still requires some improvements
What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to use yet highly customizable. I really like how it can be configured. The customer support is also nice and helpful. I also like how the access rights management is organized and the pre-defined roles. It's also easy to create new roles - I never used it but I'm glad that it's there in case when I need it.
What do you dislike about the product?
The mobile application is not that good. It's limited in comparison to the web version and it has some bugs. The web version also has some bugs that should be fixed. I had a nasty bug that I couldn't add new credit card or remove the old, expired one. However, it was solved by the support team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's our main internal communication tool. Every employee has it so it's easy for people to reach appropriate people. We use it also as a collaboration tool for the projects we conduct.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn more about the different features of Rocket.Chat. Add your own bot, custom emoticons, create different access roles etc. If you spend some time on configuration and play with the tool, you'll find that there are really nice features hidden there:)
Nice tool, good slack alternative!

It is self hosted and free. It has all the features we need.
What do you dislike about the product?
Desktop app and mobile app is bit laggyy. Sometimes there are notification problems.

Review of Rocket Chat in education
What do you like best about the product?
Easy set up and configuration. Clear pricing structure and quick to get into the hands of our users.
What do you dislike about the product?
The mobile experience isn’t great and the overall UI Isn’t as intuitive as Slack. Mobile UI needs a lot of work to get it to be truly useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communication between internal staff and external customers in our case students. We needed something quick and lightweight and especially cheap. This has been made possible with the straightforward pricing structure of rocketchat.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely worth looking at as a cheaper alternative to Slack and easy to configure and install
Lack of Support Led Us to Another Provider
What do you like best about the product?
I liked the features that Rocket.Chat had available. I liked that you could self-host or pay for hosting.
What do you dislike about the product?
I disliked that the support appeared to be outsourced. Support was slow to respond to my issues on initial setup.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm not currently using Rocket.Chat.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We were looking to switch over from HipChat to Rocket.Chat but were unable to successfully import our HipChat data either through our self-hosted Rocket.Chat server or Rocket.Chat's hosted service.
Goodbye Slack!
What do you like best about the product?
Due to a shared framework it is remarkably similar to its competitors but excels in customization, privacy, and (most importantly) reoccurring costs.
What do you dislike about the product?
New versions can come by the dozens, sometimes several days in a row.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rocket.Chat has allowed for increased productivity and collaboration while escaping the ever changing Slack pricing model.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
While the software is open-source it is far from a hobbyist application. Anyone using Slack should make the hop to Rocket.Chat without delay.
Easy to use
What do you like best about the product?
I like that there is a desktop version as well as mobile to use on the go!
What do you dislike about the product?
There really isn't anything I can think of that I don't like.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Connecting with coworkers quickly.
