Rocket.Chat: Full Control With Flexible Self-Hosting and Integrations

    Reviewed on Apr 01, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about Rocket.Chat is the level of control it gives you, especially with the option to self-host. It’s great knowing that you own your data and can customize the platform based on your needs. The channels, direct messages, and file sharing make team communication straightforward, and it works well for both small teams and more structured setups. I also like how flexible it is when it comes to integrations.
What do you dislike about the product?
The setup and configuration can be a bit complex, especially if you don’t have much technical experience. The interface also isn’t as polished as some other chat tools, so it can take a little time to get used to. In some cases, performance depends a lot on how it’s hosted, and you might need to spend time maintaining it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rocket.Chat helps centralize team communication in one place instead of relying on multiple tools. It replaces scattered conversations across emails and messaging apps with organized channels and direct messages. It’s especially useful for teams that care about privacy and data control, since everything can be managed internally. This has made collaboration smoother and reduced the back-and-forth across different platforms.

Great for Staying in Touch, but Feels Like a Slack Alternative

    Reviewed on Mar 24, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
It is a great way to keep in immediate touch with colleagues, making it simpler to communicate and share information.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is the poorer cousin of Slack. It can be a little clunky when searching. It is hosted by the institution so support seems to be less robust.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows me to message in real time, reducing wait time for responses. I am able to store messages for future use, making it easier to find information when needed.
