  • October 02, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease that Jamf gives for Configuration Control for the Mac's in an enterprise environment.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve coming from a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager environment takes a lot of getting use-to, it is a very different experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Security, Patch Management, Software Availability, Reporting.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If your environment is mostly a Microsoft Enterprise environment, Jamf is a partner so this makes the decision a no-brainer!

What do you like best about the product?
Once you have it set up with Smart Groups, policies, and Apps catalogs, it's straightforward to manage.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of detailed reports, we need more MAss Action Commands, so it makes it hard to perform some tasks at a Mass level.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
managing over 15k ipads at a time. Scoping out Apps by School level has been a problem solving experience. Saves a lot of time. Being the only Admin it has helped our dept.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a good product - I just hope they maintain their high standards and get it going with more command options.

JAMF is a must have for Mac admins

What do you like best about the product?
Even only having to manage 300 OS X and 300 iOS devices, JAMF was a life saver. I utilize JAMF in a school district with 12 remote schools. I simply couldn't manage that many devices with as few man hours as our tech department has. Before implementing JAMF, I traveled to all of our schools 3-4 times a year. Since we rely on air taxis for transport, this was very costly. Now not only do I travel far less, I am working out of the opposite side of the country, fully remote. JAMF makes this possible.
What do you dislike about the product?
Overall I don't have many complaints, but it would be awesome for more JAMF remote features to be directly integrated into the web UI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since travel between our schools is expensive and logistical challenging, being able to remotely administer our devices with ease is essential. Our satellite internet connections further challenge remote administration. The JAMF platform solves all of these challenges. Being able to set up local distributions points at each site allows us to work within the bandwidth limitations of our internet capabilities.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
JAMF is a must-have for medium to large scale Apple deployments. Working for a school, finding time that a teacher or student can relinquish their tech for me to install updates or patches is challenging. JAMF allows me to queue these updates to be installed behind the scene with few interruptions.

Jamf Continues to Be Best in Class!!!

What do you like best about the product?
Their support for new macOS' on Day 1 is fantastic and of huge importance to Mac Admins. With the evolution of the macOS security posture, having tools to effectively manage and navigate these changes that impact business is invaluable. Their webinars have very informative and help provide context into why Apple is making the changes they are - I was able to attend 3x this year: Master the Art of Zero-Touch Deployments, New Security Policies with macOS: What PPPC Means for You, and Managing Apple OS Upgrades. And of course, the Jamf Nation user community is an amazing resource where you can find tons of useful solutions to MDM challenges.
What do you dislike about the product?
Patch Management is still a feature that is lacking in this MDM solution. Often times, we will see newer versions of an Application in our environment before the version gets updates in Jamf Pro. This has happened a few times this year with our AntiVirus solution and Chrome. The version is usually updated in Jamf within a few days. Application usage metrics are also something that could be made simpler. I wish there was an easier way from a Reporting standpoint to be able to quickly view Adobe app usage across multiple devices, without needing to look at each individual computer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We continue to use Jamf Pro to manage the security our Apple fleet. This year, we are moving to get MDM around the growing number of iPads that have deployed. We have also been asked several questions this year regarding BYOD from our InfoSec team and getting MDM around end users' personal devices. This will be a sensitive project, as organizationally, we want to protect end user's privacy while placing technical controls around our Company's data on these devices.

Good functionality, some bugs

What do you like best about the product?
Advanced criteria for scoping such as buildings and other LDAP integration have been instrumental in automating workflows and eliminating manually-managed, static lists. There are a lot of very useful macOS policy payloads to accomplish basically any task. The community is great, and if you're running into issues you can usually find a solution, or at the very least someone also experiencing it to commiserate with.
What do you dislike about the product?
MDM functionality still leaves a lot to be desired, but that is, of course, at the mercy of Apple. A lot of product issues crop up, but most do eventually get fixed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Provisioning automation, unattended management. Empowering end users to solve their own problems and requests with Self Service.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Familiarize yourself with free tools first and see if they are adequate for your environment. They will also help you develop the base skills necessary to really make full use of Jamf Pro

Review of Jamf Pro

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to manage machines locally and remotely. Ability to provide a self service model for our clients. An ability to gather info concerning differing groups of managed devices (e.g. computer lab management/iOS devices/primary user machines).
What do you dislike about the product?
The inability to select multiple devices or policies to then change in some way. An example would be selecting say fifteen policies, then disabling them all at once instead of having to open each individual policy to disable it. It would be so nice to be able to act on multiple functions at once.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Self Service for software installation and updates, inventory management, ability to offer remote support.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I have really enjoyed learning and using this product. I still have a lot to learn.

JAMF on prem

What do you like best about the product?
Zero day support for new Apple OS released (Both iOS and MacOS).
What do you dislike about the product?
Takes too much time to get knowledgable support engaged for tier 2 issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Provides the ability to manage both Mac and iOS devices, simplifies deployments with DEP integration, and makes keeping our Macs up to date easy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
hands down best Mac and iOS management solution available. JAMF works closely with Apple to ensure zero day support and focuses on Apple specific needs vs. others that either focus on MDM as a whole or aren't Mac centric.

Jamf Pro - the center of my universe.

  • October 02, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the fact that I can manage all aspects of my MacOS infrastructure (configuration profile, VPP, patching, software distribution, etc.,) from one location.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is really nothing I "dislike". I do wish there were some additional features available, like the ability to change the theme color for different environments (Prod, DEV, UAT). Would also like to have the ability to import information from a spreadsheet or text file to create a group.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As stated above, the problems being solved are the ones common in a large, distributed workplace (centralized device manage, patching, software licensing)

The benefits we are realizing is the ability to manage a globally disbursed client base with less resources.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a way to centrally manage Apple devices in an enterprise environment, Jamf Pro is your solution. On-prem setup is painless, less than 1 day with professional services. Jamf Cloud setup was even easier.

Using Jamf in a school district enviroment

  • October 02, 2018

What do you like best about the product?
With the recent move from apple to 10.13 we have had to dive deep into Jamfs DEP Provisioning. It's been a wonder to add a device and watch as Jamf takes over and gets everything ready for the end user. Additionally being able to use jamf for not only inventory but to assist in recovering lost or stolen assets has helped us greatly in the past and will do so again in the future.
What do you dislike about the product?
Other than Jamfs version numbers? I'd love to have more control over what a user can do. We have a number of techs that push out packages and scripts using Jamf remote however we would like to prevent them from creating policies within Jamf Pro. We have had issues with badly scoped ongoing policies causing trouble in the past.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have always had a number of users who run updates once a year if we are lucky. Patch Management has saved us in this respect. It's wonderful to walk up to a machine and know that all software updates have been taken care of.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

  • October 02, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ability to enroll and manage all of our iPads and Macbooks in one central location. The ability to push new apps and remove old ones all at once is a huge time savings, and I like the ability to lock a device when it's lost. We recently started pushing our policies and configuration profiles to our Macbooks and it's worked amazingly. Love this feature!
What do you dislike about the product?
The device name doesn't remain after wiping or resetting the device. We have ours set for the students graduation year and name, and a configuration policy set so students can't change it. When a device has to be reset or wiped, we have to remove the configuration policy from that device and reset the device name, then reapply the configuration policy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Management of all devices is a huge time savings for us. We can find lost iPads, see what apps are installed, what iOS version and app versions are on devices.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jamf Pro is an amazing tool to use when needing to remotely manage numerous devices. Pre-Stages and Smart Groups let you set different configurations for groups of devices. We push printers and software to our Macbooks, and apps to our iPads. Location services also allows us to find lost devices, and lock them down so they can't be used.
