Rubrik is a lifesaver for IT teams because it makes backing up data incredibly simple. It completely blocks ransomware from deleting or changing your files, meaning your data is always safe. If a system crashes, its "Live Mount" feature lets you restore everything and get back to work in minutes rather than hours.

What do you dislike about the product?

Highly expensive and uses a rigid appliance model that forces you to buy more hardware nodes even if you only need extra storage space. Administrators also report that the built-in reporting dashboards lack deep customization, and the platform offers limited support for legacy physical hardware or niche, open-source databases compared to its competitors.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Rubrik helps us automate backup and recovery processes while improving data security. It reduces manual effort, provides faster recovery during system failures, and protects critical business data from ransomware and accidental loss.

What do you like best about the product?

I like Rubrik for its simple management and fast recovery capabilities, along with its strong ransomware protection. It automates backups and makes data recovery quick and reliable. I also appreciate that the initial setup is generally straightforward compared to traditional backup tools, thanks to its user-friendly interface and guided configuration. The combination of simple management, faster backup and recovery, better automation, improved cloud integration, and strong ransomware protection made a significant impact after switching from other backup solutions.

What do you dislike about the product?

Some areas where Rubrik could improve are reporting customization, occasional UI complexity for advanced features, and the learning curve for new users. In some environments, setup and licensing can also feel a bit expensive or complex.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Rubrik prevents data loss, ensures quick recovery during outages, and protects against ransomware. It centralizes backup management, automates manual processes, and improves cloud integrations. I like its simple management, fast recovery, and strong ransomware protection.

Rubrik is a premium, enterprise-grade product, and it is priced like one. For smaller businesses or mid-market companies, the upfront cost and licensing fees can be a massive barrier to entry. If you don't absolutely need its advanced ransomware and security features, it can feel like overkill for your budget

You avoid costly downtime, secure your hybrid cloud, and rapidly restore operations after cyberattacks without risking reinfection or losing critical business data.

What do you like best about the product?

It has a simple, clean user interface with a modern feel. Policy-based scheduling and retention help eliminate manual backup tasks. It also supports rapid restores of files, VMs, and entire systems during break-fix scenarios.

What do you dislike about the product?

It requires manual deployment across the infrastructure rather than being native. I’ve also run into occasional bugs after updates that temporarily break functionality. On top of that, some users find Rubrik expensive compared to alternatives.

I find the backup and recovery performance to be reliable, and the automation features significantly reduce manual efforts and human errors. Its centralized visibility tool is great for quickly monitoring backup health and identifying issues. The initial setup was straightforward and smooth, thanks to the user-friendly interface.

What do you dislike about the product?

Rubrik works very well overall, but some advanced configurations and reporting features could be more flexible and customizable. Initial setup and integration for certain environments can also take time, especially with larger infrastructure. The reporting dashboard could provide more options to customize according to team requirements and use cases, like role-based reports showing backup status, failures, and recovery metrics for specific applications or infrastructure teams without requiring manual filtering each time.

I use Rubrik for backup management, which simplifies processes and reduces recovery time during outages. It strengthens our defenses against ransomware and accidental data loss, automating backups and monitoring data policies.

What do you like best about the product?

Rubrik has carved out a massive reputation in the IT world by moving beyond "just backup" and rebranding the category as Cyber Resilience. If you’re looking at why people (and I) find it impressive, it usually boils down to how they’ve simplified the most stressful parts of a SysAdmin's job.

What do you dislike about the product?

Nothing. Everything they are doing is top notch and massive.

* *Ransomware Investigation:** It uses machine learning to detect anomalies. If it sees 10,000 files suddenly changed (a sign of encryption), it alerts you and shows you exactly which files were affected.
* **Sensitive Data Discovery:** It can scan your backups for PII (Social Security numbers, credit cards, etc.) to tell you where your sensitive data is hiding, helping with GDPR or HIPAA compliance.

What do you like best about the product?

What I like best about Rubrik is that they’re working on problems that actually matter at scale — data security, ransomware recovery, cloud backup, and resilience. It’s not just another CRUD product.

I also like that the engineering side seems very infrastructure-heavy, which aligns with my interest in backend systems and distributed architecture. Building reliable systems that enterprises depend on during critical failures is genuinely interesting to me.

What do you dislike about the product?

One concern I’ve heard about Rubrik is that, because they operate in a very fast-moving and high-growth space, the environment can be quite intense and expectations can be high. That can be great for learning, but it also means there’s pressure to move quickly and handle complex problems consistently.

That said, I actually see it as a tradeoff rather than a pure negative, because companies solving large-scale infrastructure and security problems usually operate with a high ownership culture.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Rubrik is solving problems around data security, ransomware recovery, backup automation, and fast disaster recovery for modern cloud and enterprise systems. As companies move more infrastructure and customer data to the cloud, protecting that data and recovering quickly during failures or cyberattacks becomes extremely important.

From my perspective as someone working on backend and infrastructure systems, this benefits me because reliable backup and recovery systems reduce operational risk and improve overall system resilience. It also allows engineering teams to focus more on building products instead of worrying about data loss, recovery complexity, or downtime during incidents.

What do you like best about the product?

The most helpful thing about Rubrik is the instant recovery option and the immutable file system. Rubrik owns both the hardware and software of the backup environment, which makes data resilience easier. On the downside, Rubrik lacks global deduplication across objects, and Rubrik on-prem hardware scalability does not support disk expansion; capacity expansion requires adding additional nodes.

What do you dislike about the product?

Rubrik lacks automatic client agent installation as a native feature, so it requires manual deployment across the infrastructure. Also, for the on-prem cluster, direct archival storage is not supported. Ruby AI also lacks key reasoning capabilities.

Rubrik is consistently described as one of the most expensive data management solutions, making it difficult for smaller organizations to justify. Additionally, the customization and reporting options are limited.

I use Rubrik for Zero Trust Data Security with immutable backups, ransomware protection, and rapid recovery across on-premises, cloud, and SaaS environments. Its API-first architecture and seamless integration across hybrid and multi-cloud environments benefit my data management.

I like it as a backup solution, seems to provide all the relevant backup needs ie. Instant recovery, ransomware protection and AI automation capabilities

It's a quite a bit more expensive that the other players out there however you could argue that the extensive capabilities offered by Rubrik justify the price if there's value for you

Minimising the cost of downtime. This would help any company as it can be very costly if your business is unable to function. Also the extensive ransomware protection adds to this
