Powerful and Flexible LMS Experience

  • December 01, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The extensibility and flexibility to integrate our own applications in the the workflow has been a boon to our internal processes as well as to our user's experience with the system.
What do you dislike about the product?
Given the number of configurations and options, getting comfortable/familiar with the inner workings can take some time, especially for those administrating or developing the content. Lucy consumers of that content have a much easier experience and can start using the system effectively without much hand holding.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The responsiveness and growth in the APIs allow us to modify our processes and workflow, broadening our options and increasing efficiency in all areas, including administration and pedagogy.

Making an impact at speed

  • November 28, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
D2L Brightpsace has a great design so it's easy for students and teachers to use. We have had to upskill a lot of teachers at speed and the design really makes it simple for teachers to understand the course structure and work within it to make some great courses quickly!!
What do you dislike about the product?
Because D2L isn't open source it means that you might have a simple idea on how to make it better but it has to go through their processes and be put on their road map. But when it is released it works and has been tested 100% so you can trust the developers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had a large number of issues with our Chinese students using scorm activities and their grades pulling through, their support team was straight on the case and helped us identify the issue and resolve it. They made our students the focus of their support.

New User Review

  • November 26, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is exceptionally easy - even a new user has little effort in finding what you need. Intuitive and effortless for the most part.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are features/tools scattered throughout that seem to accomplish the same purpose (in different areas). While this is probably useful to highly savvy users, it might be beneficial to narrow processes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It seems that updates and improvements are implemented frequently, and they respond to feedback.

Review of Brightspace from a Learning Technologist/TEL Developer POV

  • November 25, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- SSO capabilities
- Seamless integration with Turnitin and other TEL Tools
- Options on themes for the Content interface
- New content in the new theme of the Content interface is hidden by default
What do you dislike about the product?
- Accessibility issues in the Content area i.e. uploaded files are converted to PDF
- Inability to create sub-categories in Groups
- File size limitation to 3GB for large files submission
-
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work in Higher Education where double and/or second marking is practiced. D2L Brightspace is currently piloting a feature that will allow administrators and/or Unit Leaders to allocate their teaching/marking team to students for assessment marking and feedback. The pilot is at an early stage but there is a potential positive impact if this will be developed further for HEIs.

D2L was easy to navigate and helped to keep my class organized

  • November 23, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
D2L bright space was super organized and it made it easy for me to navigate different categories. I also appreciated the YouTube tutorials to learn how to use D2L.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only dislike I can think of is that I prefer a title of "exams" vs "quizzes."
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The organization is instrumental in making posting announcements, quizzes, etc fast and easy. It is also extremely fast to grade submissions.

    E-Learning

Educator & Curriculum Developer

  • November 17, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
D2L is easy to use for the both the front end user (learner) and the developer/teacher.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some items require too many clicks to get to the end point.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can ogranize my course content, it's easy to evaluate and track students, and build community through the discussion tools.

    Education Management

Depends on the professor. Personal account settings suck.

  • November 17, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
If done well, it's very useful to have all your class content organized in one place.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be very confusing for new teachers and markers to navigate.
Also the personal calender is garbage, should show things due on each date.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's trying to be the one-stop-shop for educational resources but that only works if every prof uses it.

Clean and neat layout for both learners and administrators

  • November 16, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Built in templates offer easy way to display materials.
I enjoy building a nice looking fancy site, but sometimes all you need is a simple eye catching tile to show students something new is available.
What do you dislike about the product?
The "content browser" is on the right, which may take some time getting used to. (It is easy after getting used to.)
The traditional left menu is easiest to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Online training solutions. The pandemic pushed a lot of teaching and learning to online computer based training. There is no going back to traditional classroom once we can do them online self-paced.

Early days but looks very promising

  • November 15, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very intuitive. Most things I want to do are easy to find and take little time to create. For the bits that are a little more in-depth, there is plenty of support out there both online and from D2L themselves. I'm really enjoying creating content in an environment that is clear and so much easier to use than our previous solution.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some restrictions around the roles and what each one can do, but that is something we can fix ourselves with a bit of trial and error. It's very early days for us at the moment as we only just started to create content so this section may have more added later!!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've taken a look at the road map, and there are a lot of things on the horizon that will help us as we use Brightspace more and more. As I said previously, we are at the beginning of our journey so not sure what problems we have to solve yet.

Very Useful for teachers and students

  • November 09, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like all the tools that Brightspace has available. The thing I like the most is that you can link activities with grades; it makes it much easier to grade students.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like a tool that allows me to create surveys for teams to grade themselves; it only saw a tool to create tests where you have a grade and a correct answer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This software allows teachers and students to be connected in a platform where you can find information, videos, links, and much more. It is like a classroom but online.
