Highly Customizable With Plenty of External Integrations
What do you like best about the product?
For me, I like how customizable it is as well as the number of external integrations. I will look into how Lumi can supplement this.
What do you dislike about the product?
We utilize several systems and sometimes users get confused about which one they are to use for different purposes. Also, sometimes the automated emails to users get caught in a junk folder.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is allowing users to complete certification and professional development requirements in a flexible way.
Brightspace Puts All Education Tools in One Place
What do you like best about the product?
I like how all education tools are in one space and that is brightspace.
What do you dislike about the product?
Probably the add-on costs for new features, or if you have a current feature and new releases for the product comes out you need to subscribe to the higher tier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Delivering education remotely to communities across Manitoba.
Numerous ELT/LTI Options and a Great TAM Experience
What do you like best about the product?
The ELT / LTI options are numerous & the wide range of available tools, and our TAM is great!
What do you dislike about the product?
The limited permissions are frustrating, more granular permissions would be appreciated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is combining everything into 1 LMS site & providing a better, more consistent UX for all users.
Consistent Tool Structure Makes Switching Easy
What do you like best about the product?
The tools share a similar structure, which makes it easy to switch between them.
What do you dislike about the product?
D2L does not provide easy steps for instructors to share information across courses, as well as from one module to another.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
One area we didn’t initially realize was a problem was communicating with students about online courses. By using an intelligent agent, the system sends an email to all students who are registered for an online class. The email is written to include general campus information.
Simple, Easy-to-Navigate UI with Helpful Analytics
What do you like best about the product?
I like the user interface; it's a simple, easy-to-navigate interface. Analytics is another tool I really like about Brightspace.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there were a better course file management system. Another improvement that I would like to see is the ability to restore courses from a previous point in time. So, having a better archiving system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Delivery of online, hybrid, and web-augmented courses.
Efficient Course Coordination, Needs Better Reporting
What do you like best about the product?
I like using D2L Brightspace for coordinating training courses. The calendar tool is particularly helpful for scheduling, and I find the groups feature great for targeting mass communication to learners from our small team. The feedback from my colleagues about the setup process has been all positive.

Robust, Accessible, and User-Friendly—Brightspace Fits Our Pedagogy
What do you like best about the product?
I love the functionality and the robustness of the platform. The accessibility features are helpful and easy to use. The experience is user-friendly, and meshes well with pedagogy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Continued improvement in the user editing experience would be great! It hsa gotten easier and easier to edit and create in Brightspace, and continued efforts in making creation and editing an easy, intuitive experience is appreciated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I think D2L Lumi is a game-changer that will be a supportive tool moving forward. Being able to use existing material and have Lumi help to make it better while still adhering to good pedagogy, as well as create new material is amazing and will be such a time-saver.
Great D2L Support and a Strong Community with Creator+
What do you like best about the product?
The support from D2L is good and you feel part of a community. I like using Creator+.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be very useful for our learners if Creator+ practices were linked to the gradebook.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Brightspace allows us to deliver learning in a scalable and flexible manner to adult learners in Ireland, working towards accreditation at Levels 1 to 3 of the National Framework of Qualifications.
Robust Platform with Integration Challenges
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate the consistency D2L Brightspace provides for all of our students, both online and lecture, accessing one system. It's great that navigating from one course shell to another offers the same experience for students, making it as uniform as possible while respecting faculty freedom. The ability to embed publisher content using deep linking tools and LTI integrations makes everything feel seamlessly integrated into the Brightspace environment. I'm very comfortable with D2L Brightspace because we've been using it for so long, and we've grown alongside it. Additionally, integrating with Harmonize provides a robust, interactive way for students to collaborate and discuss, which I wanted to note. Also, the initial setup was very easy for us, even though it was quite a long time ago.
What do you dislike about the product?
Getting data isn't always easy; it used to be simpler when we had a reports tool that was more accessible to non-coders. The current process of pulling data, especially with Big Domo and then into Power BI, isn't as straightforward. I'm also finding the data purge process challenging, as we don't have a good method for it yet, and it's something I'm working on. We've struggled with course templates not performing as expected, particularly when it comes to automatically pulling data and content to the course offering level. Similarly, using the outcomes tool effectively has been a challenge, and we're hoping the new tools might be easier to use.
