Tool with attractive and robust user interface with good documentation
What do you like best about the product?
I like its features for organising educational information and generating user-friendly course content. I also like that the documentation is very complete and detailed.
What do you dislike about the product?
No problem, it's just that the support isn't helpful as you thought.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Learning management is beneficial because it solves our mainly challenging problems for beginners because we can create and set up very engaging courses for students and include different tools and other activities like discussions and assignments.
A capable LMS that feels clunky
What do you like best about the product?
It works. Has a lot of bells and whistles and customisation options.
What do you dislike about the product?
Feels clunky to use. Too many features that feel like bloat. Some workflows feels unnecessarily difficult.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helping us distribute courseware via an online platform to students.
D2L documentation and training improvement needed
What do you like best about the product?
D2L Brightspace accommodates most of the features and functionality that we want to provide to our students within our classrooms. We have been able to apply the default templates provided to generate aesthetically pleasing course content, and the improved SCORM process allows us to create and upload Articulate products seamlessly within our courses.
What do you dislike about the product?
Brightspace is still struggling with its documentation and training materials. Most questions I have are resolved through a Google search and not through content on their Community site. They recently gave the site a facelift, but the content is still tough to find, located in too many areas, and organized in an illogical manner.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
D2L acts as our LMS and allows students to navigate through our course content relatively clearly and logically. It allows for release conditions, integrations, and design features that enhance student learning and course quality.
Good Platform With A Few Quirks
What do you like best about the product?
I have used multiple LMSs. I like the wide variety of features and the visual aesthetic D2L Brightspace offers.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are several inconsistencies across tools. What is an excellent feature in one tool should be universal to all tools, but that is often not the case.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
D2L Brightspace provides the learning platform not only for our online courses but also for our face-to-face courses. It enables the upload of work with easily accessible feedback.
Centralized, User-Friendly Learning Platform
What do you like best about the product?
I love how D2L Brightspace often gets updated and takes into account user feedback to provide the most flexible and easy-to-use platform. The user and course management features are my most used, and D2L Brightspace makes everything easier to handle on the administrative side. Managing enrollments, roles, and permissions is very straightforward, reducing time and errors. The initial setup was very, very easy too.
What do you dislike about the product?
The data hub and data sets are the biggest headaches. I would love access to the full database instead of the CSVs provided by D2L.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
D2L Brightspace solves the problem of consolidating course materials, assignments, grades, and communication in one place. It simplifies administrative tasks with straightforward management of enrollments, roles, and permissions, reducing time and errors.
Great platform to organize educational information within courses of a program (student perspective)
What do you like best about the product?
(I use D2L as a student) I love the overall UX/UI and the features D2L offers (from the user perspective). I've been using it as a student for the past couple of years and it allows for the professors to create and manage the courses, course materials, assignments, and quizzes, in a very structured and organized way. Also, it allows for discussions with other students, delivering assignments, etc. Finally, it's great to be able to access past information as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
(I use D2L as a student) To be honest, I don't have anything to complain about it right now. My experience with the platform as a student has been great and once you get ahold of how to use it, it's amazing. And the learning curve is not that steep, it's actually pretty easy and straightforward to learn.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
(I use D2L as a student) D2L helps me be a more organized student overall. It makes it easier to access information about any courses I'm taking at the university. Of course, it depends on the professors being organized, but if they are, it makes the students' lives easier. It centralizes the information, which is great.
LMS that really generates Desire to Learn
What do you like best about the product?
D2L Brightspace is one of the best learning management systems I have ever used. It is surprisingly easy to use. The graphics, layout, and interface are comparatively more motivating. Educators and trainers can enjoy the freedom of controlling various options to customize the assignments according to the learning levels and needs of the students and the trainees. It's an integrated competency-based system capable of tracking the performance of the learners from the beginning till the end in terms of achieving learning objectives. The learners on their part feel at ease while doing various assignments and quizzes. Everything is well synchronized. The course contents and the course materials are systemically uploaded, and the learners have the option to download the required files for their personal use. One of the engaging tools is a blog where not only can the students demonstrate their creative potential but also share them with their fellows for their valuable comments. The mining of these blogs often surprised me with amazing ideas from the content and comments.
What do you dislike about the product?
Aligning learning outcomes is somewhat complicated. The users sometimes are not able to get the final product as intended. It would be better if something is done to simplify the process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
D2L Brightspace is helpful in many ways. Creating and setting quizzes has always been a challenge for beginners, but D2L has made it surprisingly easy with its simple steps. A variety of subjective and objective questions can be developed in multiple ways. Then, a rubric can be set or created without much fuss. Last but not least, the grade book is automatically updated in consonance with the progress of the students. Even the students can easily complete all the quizzes, assignments, discussions, and other activities like blogging and chatting in an interactive way.
Lots of options and visually appealing
What do you like best about the product?
I like that there are many choices we have to create restricted assignments/discussions/quizzes by date, group, and many other details. There are also release conditions that allow the instructor to pace the course and automatically reward the learners.
What do you dislike about the product?
The attendance tool is pretty much useless as it does not connect to the grade book. Although I like the updates we receive, I do have a hard time keeping up with the MANY updates that happen monthly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our institution wants consistent course design, so being able to edit the main navbar and course home pages to include many learner oriented tools is really helpful. D2L also has good tech support that our faculty rely on as we are a small organization and do not have a large IT staff.
Continually Improving
What do you like best about the product?
D2L is continuously looking to make improvements. The UX has come a long way since I began using the system 4 1/2 years ago. When making these improvement, they seek the input of users. The team of D2L staff we work with seek to help improve the experience our team has within the system. There is an active product idea exchange that helps to get customer voices heard.
What do you dislike about the product?
The documentation is light or out of date on quite a few systems. This can cause an issue when trying to figure out how something works. A up-to-date standard operating proceduces manaual would be beneficial not just to the clients but also internally. We often do a lot of testing and investigating on our own. The are inconsistencies between how different functions work. What should work sometimes doesn't. There have been several instances where features have not been fully developed when deployed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The first is the new Brighspace Community is helping to organize information. Previously, much of the information was scattered. UX seems to be front of mind. The changes to UX help to reduce time spent on a task.
D2L Brightspace offers a robust learning platform
What do you like best about the product?
I like how robust Brightspace's platform is and how they keep working to support users to create visually appealing and pedagogically sound material.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are times when it can be a bit confusing to set up certain elements, for example quizzes, so they run as you would like them because the language for creator choices is not always intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ease of creating dynamic learning with plug & play elements and practices with Creator+ is amazing and will make me more efficient and benefit my students
